600000 Autos to Be Rationed for Public Use

Price Administrator Leon Henderson announced a plan to release 600000 to 700000 new cars for public sale under a rationing system similar to tires and tubes. He testified before a House committee that 550000 to 600000 currently frozen would be rationed, with 130000 to 140000 frozen for about a year as a stockpile. Local defense councils would decide allocations by need, with a likely maximum price set by "formula A" combining list price, tax, transport, and a small margin.
