Home Ownership Increases in U S
The Federal Reserve Board estimates 21 million families owned their homes in early 1950, up 750,000 from the prior year. About 2 in 10 owner-occupied homes were under $5,000, 4 in 10 were $5,000 to $9,999, and only 4 percent were worth $20,000 or more. The share valuing at $10,000 or more fell from 36 percent to 30 percent, reflecting greater housing concentration among middle and lower income families.
