Second blast victim dies of body burns at North Canton farm

Louis Reed 61 manager of Poheja Farms on H. W. Hoover estate dies at Mercy hospital after the earlier death of Fred J. Miller from a gasoline ignition explosion. Reed, born in Navarre, resided in North Industry and leaves two sisters and a brother. Funeral Tuesday at Spiker parlors with Rev. P. H. Welshimer officiating. Burial at Forest Hill cemetery.

Britain Admits Loss in Malaya

White House secretary Stephen T. Early said the President’s statement did not imply a loss of the Philippines. Asked if the word redeem meant independence loss, Early replied he did not think so and expected the Philippines’ protection of independence.

Toll in Traffic Rises. Mrs Smith Dies in Crash Near Canton

A weekend of deadly and injurious accidents in Stark County raises the year toll to 103 with 24 injured. Mrs. Mary C. Smith, 75, of 915 16th St NE, dies at Mercy Hospital after a crash on Route 30 east of Robertsville. Others injured include Joseph Bigley and Esther Bigley, plus driver and passenger from the opposite car. Ciancona and Lawtenzy were treated. others remained hospitalized.

Two Japanese ships sunk by U S Navy in Orient

United Press report from Washington states U S submarines sank a Japanese transport and a supply vessel in the Far East. A U S destroyer sustained slight damage from aerial bombing, with three such bombings in the last 48 hours. Thirteen survivors of the S S Prusa were rescued in the Central Pacific.

British Raiders Destroy Eight Nazi Ships at Vaagso

British commando forces struck the island of Vaagso near Bergen, destroying eight enemy ships totaling 15,650 tons and sinking a German tank ore facility. The German garrison was killed or captured, 120 enemy casualties reported, 95 prisoners taken, and Norwegian civilians returned with the commandos. The raid involved Navy, Army, and RAF in a coordinated operation with some casualties but hailed a complete success.

Two freighters sunk by Axis torpedoes off Honolulu

In the Pacific on December 17 two American freighters the 6000 ton Manini of Matson and the 7000 ton Prusa of Lykes Brothers were torpedoed. Nine crew members died and 33 are missing after nine days at sea with two lifeboats rescuing 25 survivors.
