US Warplanes Prove Superior in Hawaii Battles
United Press reports large mainland reinforcements arrived as Army officers say American planes and pilots are superior in every respect. Despite the Dec 7 surprise, 14 American planes at Wheeler field downed 12 to 15 Japanese craft with only two lost. Officers praised maneuverability and speed while noting Japanese aircraft relied on older designs and had non retractable gear. Airfield repairs progress shown at Hickam Wheeler and Schofield Barracks with hangars and barracks damaged but operational, many personnel living in tents and fed from field kitchens.
