Russia claims greatest modern victory in Moscow drive

Kuibyshev, Russia, Dec. 13 United Press reports Russia claimed a major victory in its counter offensive against 51 German divisions near Moscow. The offensive recaptured 400 towns, pushed Germans west of Taganrog, and damaged German forces with reported losses of 85 000 killed and over 1 400 tanks destroyed. Pravda criticized Japan while Russia vowed no respite in the war.

Ford Places Arms Work On 24 Hour, 7 Day Week Basis

Ford Motor Co with defense contracts totaling more than 900 million dollars began turning out arms on a 24 hour seven day schedule. Edsel Ford announced the plan as in effect where practical. Pratt & Whitney plant at River Rouge and a Ypsilanti area facility will run two 10 hour shifts and a seven day schedule to boost bomber production.

Two Motorists Die In Stark County Traffic Toll

Stark county reports two more traffic deaths raising the yearly toll to 92. Austin Bealer, 44, of North Canton, died at Mercy hospital from injuries after his car struck a tree on Wiserd west of North Canton Friday night. Bealer, a Hoover Co. employee, was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic church and the Eagles lodge. He is survived by his widow and seven brothers and five sisters. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Wackerly parlor. Frank Whitmore, 39, of Massillon died Friday evening at City Hospital after a traffic incident.

Damage At Wake Island and Far East Developments
