Ohio Board Would Lower Exemption of Sales Tax
Ohio tax sources committee of the Tax and Revenue Study Commission says state savings of 19 to 21 million dollars yearly are possible by reshaping the sales tax. They urge against a state income tax, propose lower exemption on sales under 41 cents, and recommend other changes including removing prepaid stamp discounts and expanding local admissions taxes. The panel, voting 6 to 1, plans final report to the General Assembly meeting January 1 and a December 15 review.
