Frank Noel, a Pulitzer winning AP photographer, was captured near Koto south of Changjin reservoir while aiding a cut-off Marine column in northeast Korea. He joined AP in 1937 and earned fame for a 1943 Pulitzer photo titled Water. Noel stayed with front-line units for weeks, seeking decisive combat images and reportedly risked his life repeatedly for standout news photographs.
