In Lake Success on April 8 AP reports Russia is likely to veto Korea's bid for U.N. membership as the Security Council considers the Korean application. The 14 member steering committee discussed the Dutch Indonesian dispute with India and Australia urging the assembly to take up the issue to pressure Dutch compliance with council decisions.

Acheson Plans Military Aid to Atlantic Allies

Eight European members of the North Atlantic Alliance urged U S help to rearm. The State Department said Washington will seek congressional approval for a military aid program, likely about 1.25 billion dollars in equipment over 12 months, aligned with self help and mutual aid under the Atlantic pact. Brussels pact nations led by Luxembourg urged coordinated arms production and transfer of equipment to support a common defense plan.

Parents feared as schooner adrift with two children

A coast guard air sea search is under way for the 50 foot schooner Keewatin off the Carolinas.
