The House approved a bill to erase 63 years of oleomargarine taxes by 287 to 89 and sent it toward the Senate. Dairy-state lawmakers oppose, promising lengthy talks to block repeal, while the bill requires triangular yellow oleomargarine sold in public places to be identified as oleomargarine.
Washington April 2 AP reports how Ohio's representatives voted on a bill repealing oleomargarine taxes. Democrats for passage 7 Burke Crosser Feighan Huber McSweeney Wagner Young. Republicans for 4 Brehm Elston Jenkins Vorys. Democrats against 3 Breen Polk Secrest. Republicans against 5 Brown Clevenger McCulloch McGregor Weichel. Two Democrats Hays Kirwan and two Republicans Smith Bolton not voting.
Senators plan a state rights measure repealing federal oleomargarine taxes and allowing states to ban or permit yellow oleomargarine sales. House previously passed a repealer, but faced opposition in Senate. hearings to begin next week with optimism of passage, while a filibuster is uncertain. Tax list and 18 states restricting sale noted.
Elmer Madsen a 37 year old station manager for Capital Airlines at the Akron Canton Airport suffered fractures to his left knee and wrist after falling 15 feet from a platform while loading air freight. He was taken to Aultman Hospital. The fall occurred as he worked on a nose loading stand on the concrete apron.

Water runoff scorched rubber on the first floor and two minor explosions were reported.

Dover reports Sgt Richard E Cochran, 25, of 444 Front St, Dover, died in a C-47 crash near Edgar Springs, Missouri. Attached to Andrews Air Base, he was being transferred to Alaska, leaving behind his widow Thelma Winkhart and 21 month old Philip. Surviving relatives include brother S/Sgt Leonard Cochran and two sisters Beverly and Doris. Funeral services will be through Lewis Funeral Home.
