Bound Over to Court in Local Troubles

John Victor, formerly charged with drawing an unknown weapon, appeared before Judge Hagelin Saturday and was bound over to the district court in the sum of 1000 dollars. Lacking collateral, he remains in the sheriff’s custody with Sheriff Thorp until his case is called.

Caldwell Lodge Elects Officers for Six Months

Caldwell Codme No. 10 of the I O F reports officers elected at the last regular meeting. William Parriah is nominated as N G with Avon and Cod Shorb as recording and financial secretaries, J P Johnson, and Charles Oakes named trustee for three years. Installation is set for January 1.

Caldwell citizens tour Phyllis Canal work progress

Sower the district superintendent led five Caldwell residents to the Phyllis canal where a steam dredge is enlarging and cleaning the canal. Two shifts of eight hours move about 1200 yards of dirt daily, with excavated material placed on the lower bank to strengthen the hillside section and reduce break risk. L. B. Greenslet oversees operations with completion expected by April 10 to restore a full head of water.

Mayor Smith appoints library and cemetery staff

Mayor Smith made several appointments pending city council approval on Wednesday. Jennié Wood was named librarian, J. W. Ross appointed sexton at the cemetery and janitor of city hall. G. W. Hodson had served as sexton and applied for the dual post. Ross is described as highly competent and expected to meet his predecessor's standard.

Steve Adams will be taken to Telluride Colorado to answer for the murder of Arthur Collins Smuggler-Union mine superintendent in December 1901 Extradition papers were signed after Governor Gooding honored the requisition and Western Federation of Miners plans to contest the move Adams held in Rathdrum Idaho and faces three murder charges with Orchard expected to corroborate his confession The piece also contains a funeral poem for Earl Carpenter aged 9 5 11 17 days and biographical notes on related figures.

Commercial club votes to join League of State Clubs

The Commercial club met to decide joining the League of State Clubs for joint advertising. A four month test was approved with withdrawal if outcomes were unsatisfactory. A three member committee including J. H. Lowell, Walter Griffiths and J. S. Harrington was named to coordinate with the State Dairy Association and Farmers' Institute. The club rooms were made available to attendees. A Friday meeting was set to discuss proposed bridges and desired counts and types.

Baker Sells Out Caldwell Feed Store and Rooming House

Mesars, Brooks, and McCwichemn bought out Mr J A Bakers feed store and will run the business in Caldwell. They will also operate the Caldwell rooming house after their recent arrival.

Tinker Nomination Sent for Bolse Receiver Post

The nomination of Fred V. Tinker to be receiver of public money at the Boise land office was sent to the Senate on Thursday to succeed E. B. Garrett whose term expired over a year ago. Tinker, who lives at Idaho City, has mined for years and was backed by Senator Borah before withdrawal at Attorney General Bonaparte’s request during Borah’s timber fraud trial.

Charley Milton died Thursday in a Boise hospital after being brought from Nampa Wednesday. The Caldwell resident was well known for formerly tending bar at the Saratoga.

First National Bank Report Praises Caldwell Town

The report of the condition of the First National Bank appears in this issue and looks favorable. The note suggests Caldwell is a thriving town, noting it is better than a two million dollar town and that it pays dollar for dollar.

High School Football Team Entertained by Girls at Opera House

A group of about thirty young people attended an event at the Opera House store room on Saturday evening. The girls from the high school acted as hosts, with Mesdames Isham Dryden and McGee supervising as chaperones. Games were played until eleven, followed by light refreshments, and all reported the gathering very enjoyable.
