Lignite Bank Robbery Suspects Connected to Flaxton Case

Yeggmen blew open The First State Bank of Lignite using nitro glycerine, stealing about $2,000 in silver and currency. The same two men suspected in the Flaxton post office and Bowbells bank raids. authorities searched the hills and questioned witnesses, while hardware store loot and a Bowbells sighting linked the pair. The incident prompted sheriff patrols and community alarm.

Cottonwood Lake Burns Half Its Business District

Sunday night fire in Cottonwood Lake Williams county west of Wildrose destroyed five business buildings including Dan Murray’s confectionery post office and local offices. Fire started in the Murray store from an unknown cause, efforts saved little, most buildings insured and to be rebuilt. Also note Gus Albertson plans to use a Big Four gas tractor for threshing and thistle control after harvest.

Robbery On Bowbells Main Street Injures Hotel Operator

Miss Elmyra Porter, daughter of Mr and Mrs G I Porter, faced a street assault while managing the Palace hotel. She was seized, robbed of money and fainted, later recalling a duck coated man and a case that left her unconscious until eleven. Sheriff Stainhofer investigated but could not identify a suspect. Local threshing reports followed.

North Dakota gardener seeks help on destructive cut worms

A North Dakota game warden sent cut worms to the North Dakota Agricultural College asking for guidance as these pests damaged gardens all summer. The college explains the worms are not true army worms but a Noctuidae species with two broods yearly, pupating in prairie sod or stubble, and suggests burning dry prairie and plowing fields before May to destroy pupae.
