Man Arrested in Wahpeton for Assault on 6-Year-Old Girl

Dan Holden was arrested in Hankinson area and brought to Wahpeton for a preliminary hearing after allegedly assaulting a six year old girl on a road ride while she walked to school. He waived examination and was bound over to district court. bail default sent him to county jail awaiting next term. The girl suffered serious pain and remains under care. Holden, a long time farm laborer, is well known in Hankinson vicinity.

John B. Myers editor of the Maxbass Monitor died by suicide in Newburg after leaving Maxbass with money and asking a station agent for a revolver. He had been in a low mood for weeks and left relatives in Winnipeg and British Columbia. An inquest was expected.

City awards sewer contract to Geo Kemper for 4152

At an adjourned city council meeting the sewer system contract was awarded to Geo W Kemper of Minot for 4152.00 the lowest bid with L W Shaul of Fargo at 4178.00 as the runner up. Kemper plans to ship a ditching machine to Bowbella and begin work immediately aiming to finish by October 16 as the system runs from the First National Bank corner on Main street toward Donovan hardware and into Stony Creek.

Frost damages crops and small birth reported in Coteau area

Wm Grill reports a killing frost Tuesday morning in the hills injuring hundreds of acres of flax and garden crops like cucumbers tomatoes and beans. Gardens in the city and north of town remained untouched. A baby boy weighing eight pounds was born to Mr. and Mrs. Chas A Wallace on September 12 at their home southwest of Coteau.
