The Crosby Review editor Brother Ware is sued by Geo. W. Jones for 5000 dollars in alleged reputation and business damages. The paper defends its commitment to truthful, readers demands and expects the suit to be dismissed before trial.
Dan Holden was arrested in Hankinson area and brought to Wahpeton for a preliminary hearing after allegedly assaulting a six year old girl on a road ride while she walked to school. He waived examination and was bound over to district court. bail default sent him to county jail awaiting next term. The girl suffered serious pain and remains under care. Holden, a long time farm laborer, is well known in Hankinson vicinity.
The play In The Foot Hills comes to Bowbells Opera House on Saturday Sept 21 set in New Mexico mining cattle country. It follows a gambler with a heart of gold through a romance and a humorous western drama with no gunfire and agents of arbitration driving the plot to a cheerful end.
Fred Dilworth completed laying a concrete block sidewalk on Third street in front of the M. E. church old G L Bickford place and Ed Drinkwater property. At an adjourned city council meeting the sewer system contract was awarded to Geo W Kemper of Minot for 4152.00 the lowest bid with L W Shaul of Fargo at 4178.00 as the runner up. Kemper plans to ship a ditching machine to Bowbella and begin work immediately aiming to finish by October 16 as the system runs from the First National Bank corner on Main street toward Donovan hardware and into Stony Creek.
Wm Grill reports a killing frost Tuesday morning in the hills injuring hundreds of acres of flax and garden crops like cucumbers tomatoes and beans. Gardens in the city and north of town remained untouched. A baby boy weighing eight pounds was born to Mr. and Mrs. Chas A Wallace on September 12 at their home southwest of Coteau.
A farmer near Bowbells, Harry Johnston six miles southwest, shows a five foot tobacco plant yielding about six dollars worth of Dukes Mixture. His example prompts talk of a local tobacco factory as more farmers consider growing the crop.
The county fair committees report完善 preparations for a three day event with improved plans from last year. Farmers forecast strong exhibitions in vegetables grains and seeds while races including horse trotting pace and automobile events are scheduled. Entries are encouraged and new attractions will be announced this week.
