Foothills notes describe coal mine trips, farms, and social visits from Clarence Ellsworth to J. D. Beard with Albert, Mildred Remington, Dorris Houck, and Cornelia Neadermeier at Lignite meetings. A wedding is anticipated, church attendance was light due to snow, and court confidence praises the district judge and administration with no call for change.
Supporters urge Hon K E Leighton’s reelection citing honesty impartiality and a judicial mind. They praise his fairness, mercy, and efforts to reform the errant youth while clearing court calendars efficiently in Ward County.
Northgate locals recount visits and movements. Mrs Mark McArdle and Florence Siverling stayed with relatives. Chas Madden and family moved to Bowbells. many attended a well received dance at the Northgate hardware building. Several residents traveled to Port Huron, Tribune and Montana while others planned events including a masquerade at the Canadian depot to benefit patriotes and the red cross.
North Dakota reports a severe autumn with heavy losses in the Red River Valley. A farmer’s daughter Lydia Lindhele was gravely injured after a car backed from a garage. Barns and livestock burned in a mystery fire near Olaf Chaput. Various accidents and crimes across Dickinson, Belfield, Mandan, and Minot include injuries from motorcycles, a mangled hand from an electric washer, a purse theft, and a stray bullet through a depot window.
The notice lists Frankie Hangon son of Mr and Mrs Nels Hanon from the hills undergoing tonal and adenoids surgery. It also mentions two stray sheep to be claimed. Dorothy Mildred and Helen Irwin from the city were treated for tonal and adenoids, and Albrecht, fur salesman, will be at Monday, Oct 30 with a large fur sale. Dept Store Kensiare North Dakota.
Clayton P J Devaney left for Minot Friday with Wincur Tiewan and Mrs Bryan visited the Devaney home Friday and Saturday. Marie Moe dropped by W E Clarks Saturday. Aaron Kistler and Francia Bogit attended the Flaxton dance Saturday. Ruth Bryan and Albert Bogus spent the weekend at their homes. John Bryan and Ed Gille were visited by Mr and Mrs Clark. Eugene visited Woods. Hazel Berg spent Monday with Mrs White. George White drove to Noonan Sunday.

J A Soderquist of Columbus wrecked his 1917 Buick near town, narrowly escaping serious injury after a ditch and bank collision. car severely damaged.
The state school of forestry begins shipment of thousands of seedling trees to landowners in North Dakota. Trees are to be planted next spring. No further applications will be accepted this fall or next spring. Subsequent requests will be filed for delivery in fall 1917 or spring 1918.
Dimond Will Stewart visited Bowbells on business while Pete Adamson went to Coteau and other locals traveled to Kenmare and Nieve for matters. Yeoman lodge held a Saturday session with a long program of songs and speeches led by Mia Bell DuMara and others, followed by a midnight supper and a large turnout of non members. The next meeting is scheduled for the November frat Saturday.
Mr Thompson left his ranch with all cuttice and shipped to South St Paul. Wm Mosher sold personal effects at a public sale last Wednesday and plans to move to Wisconsin. The Mosher place rents to Wm Grill. W E Little family moved to Bowbells for the winter. Nels A Nelson hauled cattle to the cities from Coteau. Renry Tiles hauled hogs to Celesti. A correction notes Fran DuMars and Mrs Alea Howard out in the Hills, not Mrs Frank DuMars. Aurea Skredevig visited Coteau with grain.

From Grand View and nearby towns a flurry of small updates: Mrs. Ole Lovik ill with pleurisy, Frank Labroom girl seriously ill, Mrs. Henry Anderson returned from Kenmare, Martinus Dahl shopped at Larson, the Thompson family moves into Boen residence, Henry Tuliusa on pick at Herman Wick mine. Keller township to build a new school, teachers at Burke County Institute, and the county teachers praising the meeting. Also noted are local business transacts, fruitless fruitless grain chatter, and the impending monthly school exam as time flies.
The report notes Clifford Lepper’s return to school and a midweek shift in the student program. A humorous stunt titled Courtship Under Difficulties appears, with six week exams held last Wednesday and Thursday. Eighth grade girls form a basketball team coached by Miss Harrix, meeting after school Tuesdays for practice. Samuel Coleman elected captain of the boys basketball team for the coming season. An exhibit is planned for spring as snow melts. Ted and Reginald will serve the zoology class with bean soup and tapioca pudding at service hours. Margaret Robbina visited the grates, sewing activity continues, and operations are performed on crayfish by the zoology club. Temporary president chosen for the sterile society and a program committee appointed. first program will be at noon.
A buyer plans to visit Bowbells on November 6 to purchase cavalry and artillery horses. Specifications require 165 to 16 bande ple with any color and a one day inspection in town. Rider and unit noted from Chicago.
