Chicago dispatch reports Theodore Roosevelt was shot in Milwaukee. Surgeons say the bullet caused a deep chest wall wound, no vital organ damage, rest required for days. Roosevelt delivered a campaign speech at the auditorium after the incident, then was rushed to Chicago Mercy Hospital for treatment.

Hold Up at Carrington Soo Depot
Carrington North Dakota October 14 two masked highwaymen robbed the Soo Line depot last Saturday night taking 83 from six men none hurt. One burglar used a revolver to collect money while the other guarded the door. They vanished into darkness, depots safe not broken. Police alerted to surrounding towns as efforts to capture them continue. The amounts taken were 17 from Paul G Allen 27 from John Smith 5 from Peter Snyder 8 from Karl Haines 25 from P B Carter 25 from P B Carter two assailants not identified.

Independent candidates for county offices filed petitions with the county auditor the latest Monday. Socialist petitions were filed and county commissioner petitions were rejected by the auditor on advice of legal authorities. Burke County Teachers Association will meet in Lignite on Friday November 8 at 1:30 PM with a program on school improvements and geography. Don McClellan plans a 12 by 14 addition to the Blomquist house in Bowbells and will move to town for the winter. A Rosary and Benediction will be held at St Josephs church Saturday at 7 30 PM

Ray N Dated Oct 14 report Chief Witter’s prisoner Frenchy, intoxicated, locked in a city cooler, started a bedding fire. Smoke issued from the building, firemen broke in, prisoner dragged to safety, later tried to escape but was recaptured. In Bowbells a grain market surge noted as dry winds improve threshing conditions and storage space tightens.

DITCHING MACHINE BEGINS BOWBELLA SEWER PROJECT
Contractor Geo W Kemper started Wednesday to dig the main trench for Bowbella sewer lines. The large ditching machine, shipped from Minot, faced delays but crews assembled and work began near the railroad bridge, heading northwest to Donovan hardware then northeast to First National Bank corner. Completion was due October 15 but is now hoped within ten days. The machine, the largest ever used in Bowbella, can dig about 350 feet of trench eight feet deep per day.
