Grandin Farm Founder Recalls North Dakota Land Boom

Boston banker J L Grandin, owner of the Grandin farms in Cass and Traill counties, recalls paying 41 cents an acre for land that would form the nucleus of his North Dakota holdings. He describes securing land through Northern Pacific securities and a shift from one crop to rotation farming, with varied crops and strong yields, including corn and clover, across the Grandin operation.

North Dakota Memorial Gift Planned for Battleship

A state committee led by officials including E Y Sarles Frank White Roger Allin and others plans a memorial for the battleship North Dakota. The fund target is 10000 to supply a vice service design and fittings, with districted collections and permanent donor records to be added to the ship. Receipts will be issued from a central office and donors named in the ship’s records.

A Minot Optic report states in district court last Thursday a $100 reward for capturing horse thief John Mozier was awarded to Dick Steinhofer, deputy sheriff. Mozier was chased across the county before being captured near Antler. The reward was authorized by the Estate We.

North Dakota Laws on Underage Cigarette Use 1909

A 1909 North Dakota law summary bans sale of cigarettes cigars and tobacco to anyone under eighteen with penalties up to a $50 fine or 30 days per offense. It also criminalizes minor use of tobacco in public places with fines up to ten dollars and possible county imprisonment. It prohibits adults from harboring minors for tobacco use and preserves parental rights on private property.

No Cause to Hold Kelly in Williston Preliminary

In Williston the preliminary hearing of D W Kelly on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon ended with no probable cause found. Deputy Finn and Kelly clashed at a barber shop. Finn admitted drawing toward his hip pocket. The judge discharged Kelly. witnesses described a tense struggle over a hammer gun with the weapon possibly discharged accidentally.
