Delegates Named to Convention in North Dakota

North Dakota delegates to the National Republican Club League convention in Chicago were named at a Fargo meeting led by W. E. Hunt and Norman B. Black. Four delegates from each district and six at large will attend June 18 in the Congress Hotel gold room. Delegates include J. W. Jackson, Robert G. Paterson, E. C. Cooper, and others from Williston, Fargo, Dickinson, Lisbon, Jamestown, Valley City, Minot, Mott, and Bismarck.

Man Shot and Killed in Buffalo North Dakota

In Buffalo North Dakota on May 29 an unknown man was shot dead during a disturbance as town marshal John Test and deputies pursued him. The gunman fired on pursuing citizens and fled west along the railroad, later dying as shots returned by the marshals ended the confrontation. Judge C F Randall moved earlier in the week from his Moore house near the ball park to E E Corey residence in Bowbelis township.

Burke County Schools Receive Major State and County Aid

The Burke county school system allocates a large state grant of 9,554.60 and a county share of 5,863.57 to be distributed to districts. Per capita figures are 4.04 from state and 2.48 from county, with the county’s total slightly below last year. C. E. Christensen reported local farmers have nearly finished seeding except oats and flax, and Denmark township shows thick grain stands and promising crop prospects.

Settlement Still Up in the Air in County Talks

County Commissioners John Bryan and Thomas Ely traveled to Minot on Tuesday to urge a settlement between Burke and Ward counties. Donovan was ill and did not attend, with the Renville county board also present. No agreement by Wednesday afternoon, plans to continue negotiations, using the Ward and Mountrail arrangement as a basis. The meeting aims to resolve matters by Saturday evening. The M.E. church ladies and society plan a meeting next Thursday with Mrs Don McLellan.

Candidates File Names For All Offices In North Dakota

Bismarck May 27 candidates filed affidavits and petitions with Secretary of State Norton by 4 pm for congressional, state and judicial races. Republican and Democratic lists include many names across districts for governor lieutenant governor secretary of state state treasurer auditor attorney general and railroad commissioners. Judicial candidates cover supreme court justices and district judges across five districts.

Local candidates file as last day closes in county offices

District listings show W L Nuessle Washburn and others for sixth through twelfth districts. The final filing deadline passed Monday at four o’clock with James Uglum the lone new entrant for register of deeds. Several offices lack opposition indicating general satisfaction with incumbents. A farewell party honored Miss Mary Preeshl as she leaves Bowbells for Glenwood City Wisconsin to attend a sister’s wedding.

County Seat Cage Argued Wednesday in Supreme Court

The Lignite Bowbells county seat case was argued before the North Dakota Supreme Court in Bismarck on Wednesday. Attorneys Dorr H. Carroll and H. S. Blood represented Lignite, Geo. A. Bangs represented Bowbells. No decision is expected soon as the court will assign the opinion to an associate justice for writing and a ballot will determine the winner.

Commencement Exercises Tonight At Lyons Opera House

The eighth grade graduation will be held tonight at the Lyons opera house with the eighth graders only, inviting all Bowbells residents. Rev. R. M. Millard of Kenmare will deliver the address. The program includes choruses, presentations of diplomas, and benediction.
