North Dakota Aviator Fred J. Southard Dies in Flight

Minot news wires report Fred J. Southard formerly of Williston died after falling 100 feet from an aeroplane he had just bought from the Wright Brothers at Wright aviation field near Osborn. He began his first solo flight and fell six minutes after taking off. Southard had moved between Williston Minneapolis and later pursued real estate interests and aviation. Local notices also cover post office prize delivery arrests and state publicity pamphlet distribution to voters with a few Burke county candidates named.

Ball Team Organized by Local Baseball Association

A meeting of the Base Ball Association organized a city season team and planned stock sales to cover debts. Officers elected include Herman Endreson as president and M H Powers as vice president. A battery was wired for the season and a manager, Mr Masters, was chosen. A survey team was seen near North Star township with plans for further work near Bowbells or east of the city as well as road construction near Frobisher.

Socialists Counted In County Assessments Describe Sizes

County assessors show about 200 socialists on record with many hill residents withholding politics. The Tribune’s tally places the socialist total near 200 when including those who admitted or were labeled socialists. Man Freed After 19 Years In State Prison

James Kelly walked free after 19 years and four months, his life sentence for first degree murder commuted to 26 years by the state pardons board. Buick Model 35 Climbs Mount Diablo With Sierra Club Load

A Buick Model 35 driven by Earl de Vere and Claude McGee of Howard Auto climbs Mount Diablo's rough 4000 foot grade with three passengers and 700 pounds of baggage. The car reaches the brick monument at the peak, then descends safely with four additional passengers. Goodyear tires perform reliably amid washouts and tight turns on the private Pine Canyon route.

Dungan hangs himself in Ellendale jail cell

Frank Dungan who shot James Cole at Fullerton on May 4 hanged himself in his Ellendale jail cell last night. He had been suspected insane and his wife died in an asylum earlier. His two children were placed with relatives in Fulda, Minnesota. The Kenmare schools stage The Elopement of Ellen at the opera house next Wednesday evening, praised for rehearsals.

Judge Fisk Stands in for Citizenship Hearings

Judge Leighton was absent. Judge Frank E. Fisk of Williston presided. Of 11 applications, six granted, two dismissed, two continued. New citizens: Olaf Erickson Kandiyohi, Emil Nelson northwest of city, John Nelson Bowbells, Geo McKenzie Bowbells, Christian Hanson Lignite, Ole Finkenhagen near Lignite. Ambrose Chapin Portal and Albert Helseth Stampede dismissed for no show. Andrew Herland and Anton Van Berken continued for witnesses. S. M. Sorenson of Niobe Bank and wife visited. Sorenson lauded as cashier and community leader. Berthold land draw results noted.
