Nine Charged With Shooting Horses in North Dakota

Minot North Dakota May 25 August Grueger a prominent Berthold farmer arrives with his fifteen year old son who was arrested charged with shooting two two year old stallion colts belonging to neighbor Syver Steffin Two colts fell into Krueger’s pasture and the owner says they were shot The Krueger boy owned a shotgun used for gophers A veteranarian was sent to inspect the horses Various family histories and church affiliations are noted including Ole Krueger’s Danish loyalty and his funeral at Bethany church with interment in Bethany cemetery

Postmaster Fatally Injured in Minot Auto Wreck

W J George postmaster at Van Hook and long-time Minot resident died from injuries after a Burlington road collision west of Minot. Driver William O Leary suffered severe cuts. Four others escaped injury. The car skidded after hitting a rut and overturned. George was thrown against the windshield, suffering a severe facial injury.

Body of man found dead by own action in park

Grand Forks North Dakota May 25 a strang e man about 38 or 40 with a bullet wound to the right temple lies in Lincoln Park found by three local fishermen. An identification card names Walter Burroughs of Chan a Illinois with possible connections to a Moose lodge. A .38 caliber revolver is found. authorities deem it a likely suicide with no immediate clues or notes.

Ole Harrow Jensen passes after long illness

Kenmare Journal notes Ole Harrow Jensen died last Friday after a prolonged sickness caused by stomach cancer. Born in Denmark he married and was buried beside his first wife before remarrying a widow with five children. Friends mourn the longtime local figure.

Board of Burke County Commissioners May 1916 Proceedings

Burke County officials meet May 2 3 4 5 6 1916 adjourn and reconvene to audit bills view bridges roads and repair projects. Actions include paying various warrants, approving taxes refunds, appointing road overseers, and authorizing bridge rebuilds with crews and materials. Committees appointed to oversee bridge work and grade construction with bids to be opened June 27 1916.

Poligeman Shot by Unknown Man in Elbowwooday Dy

James Hugle police chief of Elbowwooday Dy was shot and seriously injured by an unknown assailant who fled before witnesses could describe him. The motive remains unclear though police suspect burglary or arson intent. The wounded chief is resting and expected to recover.

Casselton Man Survives Narrow Gall Hazard

Casselton NOD May 2 Harry J Hawley suffered a serious near miss while a Farm work accident occurred as he and Locke were cleaning a well on Amena farm. Hawley was struck by the engine and tossed several times. Dr Baldwin transported him by auto, with head injuries and broken bones but no fatalities reported.

Prairie fire claim claims Austrian worker near Surrey

Minot North Dakota May 25 Nickolay Japolscky an Austrian employed on Dan Movher’s Surrey area farm died last night at a hospital from injuries received in a prairie fire days earlier. Undertaker J W Rowman prepares the body for burial to be held tomorrow. He was young and had no obvious relatives in the country. His parents reside in Austria. He came to the Blocher farm and was described as a steady dependable worker.

Geese menace to lake region fields

Church Ferry North Dakota May 25. Local farmer Barnt Anderson says wild geese are devastating grain fields uncovered by a recent wind storm. On the Anderson farm thousands of geese have their headquarters and state law protection prevents hunting. If the birds grow tamier, Keene harvester may be in demand.
