Deputy Sheriff Wounded in City Altercation
In Bismarck on May 7 Deputy Sheriff Ed Barnes was badly cut by Corporal Chadwell of Company A Fourteenth Infantry during a dispute over a city hack ride. Barnes, after subduing Chadwell, sought medical care for a nine inch leg gash and other wounds. The incident occurred outside the Atlantic cafe after Chadwell refused to desist.

Williston Man Leaves Rest to Settlers and Nieces
Knute Lee died recently and left most of his estate to poor settlers in the region. A portion of 333,000 went to three Seattle-based nieces. His autograph will, filed in Williams County probate court, details a cash deposit in Wheelock Bank and reflects years spent on the agricultural frontier.

Many failed 10 file on land at Fort Berthold
Minot North Dakota May 8 Thirty eight of eighty nine names called at the United States map room failed to answer evidently having concluded not to file on the Fort Berthold Indian reservation Fifty three persons have filed their applications Only about every other one in the last eighty nine names called will file and if the proportion of those filing decreases as it has so far those holding high numbers will have an opportunity of selecting some land On Saturday Superintendent Wood will commence calling 100 names each day as it is believed that by that time the number answering will be sufficiently small to permit the accommodation of those who do not answer without any difficulty Thus far the locators have not figured very prominently in the selection and especially among those who filed today the number who located themselves is surprisingly large the large majority having done so Attorney Geo H Phelps of the First State Bank and wife went to Weyburn Saskatchewan Tuesday to spend a few days on business and pleasure.

Reverend L K Brandser Loses Driving Horse Near Flaxton
Reverend L K Brandser of south of Flaxton reports his sorrel mare driving horse stolen on February 22 from prairie near his home about ten miles northwest. He has sworn out a warrant for the thief and sheriff Stainhofer has sent out notices to officers with the animal description, a chunky eight year old mare weighing about 1200 pounds with a white face and a cut on the right eyelid.
