Officials of the Interborough Rapid Transit announce plans to run trains on schedule. James Farley leads the strike breakers and salutes his followers after bringing motormen from the West. He is reported to receive about 25000 in total pay for his work, plus a daily rate for each strike breaker.
Special agents are reported investigating public land frauds in Utah. Hundreds of thousands of acres of coal lands were acquired by corporations by questionable methods. Lands filed as coal and patented as agricultural or grazing lands were later sold to coal companies.
An explosion set off by a miner ignited a blast and started a fierce shaft fire at Young mine in Irwin. About 150 men were in danger but all escaped injury. Efforts to smother flames failed, with flooding planned. The fire threatens Hohn town village area and damage is expected to be heavy after $200,000 spent on plant improvements.
