A car turning over near Wenthope North Dakota on June 14 left five children with black eyes and their mother seriously injured. Theo DeMars was badly bruised after being pinned under the steering wheel while Mr DeMare lifted the wreck to free the family. A broken gear caused the crash.
Joseph Davis killed his wife Rachel Gardner Davis with an iron bar and then died by shooting himself. The double tragedy occurred near Rolla as the couple walked from Rank Davis's home toward a priest’s, en route to Devils Lake. Davis was under federal indictment for introducing Nynor on the Turtle Mountain reservation. Mrs. Davis, formerly of Belcourt, was a milliner. The couple had been married five years and had no children.
In Bismarck North Dakota on June 14 Martin Remfert of Sheridan County pleaded guilty to attempting to burn the barn threshing machinery and other property of John Wackens Judge Nuessle sentenced him to six months in jail fined 300 and costs 200 The judge warned that failure to pay would extend the jail term Remfert and Leonard Mertz faced trial but the judge ruled the evidence insufficient to connect them with the misdemeanor and directed a verdict for the defendants
Wilton North Dakota June 14 Albert Marquse a farmer who feared registration hanged himself in his barn and was found swinging from a rafter. He had fled from Poland to escape service and worried over being drafted here. Marquae won 27 and had relatives in Scotland.
The North Dakota Veterinary Medical Examining Board filed action against Elijah Golden of Tolley for unlicensed practice. He was arrested and transported to Mohali where he was found guilty and fined $50.00.
Railroads facing high living costs and fixed incomes seek a fifteen percent freight rate increase from the Interstate Commerce Commission. The commission is expected to grant some raise, possibly fourteen or ten percent, with the final decision uncertain.
The railroads of North Dakota ask the state railroad and warehouse commission to raise intra state rates by fifteen percent to match the proposed nationwide increase. They urge equal treatment with federal action and a careful, friendly review by the state body. In Minor North Dakota on June 14, Gottleb Hubuli a 37 year old Swiss farmer who owns 200 acres in Gassman township suffered a mental delusion over fears of war. He jumped into a well Thursday morning but was rescued by neighbors. He wishes to plead guilty and serve time, believing he has committed a great wrong. The same report notes the Supreme Court affirmed a lower court ruling in the case B C Krueger vs The First State Bank of Bowbella decided last week after more than a year of court action.
Washington June 10 Registra tion reports show North Dakota's total registration at 52,369 with 46,114 white 66 colored 5,672 alien 507 alien enemies and about 2,405 exemptions. Government estimate of eligible was 77,040, indicating a 33 percent shortfall.

In Minot on June 14, Tom Domber and Kassmer Strasinki, Hungarian and Polander respectively, were arrested at Burlington and jailed on charges of assaulting Grover Hart, the superintendent of the Davia mine near Burlington. Authorities say drunkenness sparked the incident. nationality tensions were unfounded.
In Mandan North Dakota three girls join a crew of engine wipers at the Northern Pacific roundhouse after labor shortages. Women also fill roles in Glendive and Dickinson shops and will be used extensively this summer. The railroad says women have long served as freight checkers for truckers.
In Lisbon North Carolina on June 14 Sheriff Ray Craig confronted three bullet wounds in Thomas Thompson after his insane brother Albert Thompson fired at him during a confrontation at the Thompson home in Kidville. Thomas Thompson was hospitalized in doubtful recovery. the assailant was taken to the Jamestown asylum.
Atamoose June 14. Early Wednesday morning the volunteer fire department was called to the Gooke cottage. burlap sacks with kerosene under a basement wall were set afire. A drilled hole allowed kerosene to pour onto the flames. Herman Hohenstein and family slept as smoke filled the house. No culprit yet. investigation underway. Five weeks earlier a frame building on Matin street burned and the post office adjacent was damaged. Authorities vow strong action against the culprit.

The wife, optimistic his illness may have affected his mind, remains heartbroken and hopeful for a word from him to end the suspense.
Dickinson, June 14. Worry and superstition mount as Mike Chumack, accused slayer of Mr. and Mrs. Caldwell and alleged rapist of 14 year old Hila Croy, fights for life after shooting himself. He may miss arraignment June 18 as district court awaits his condition amid sensational testimony and fear of retaliation. Adolph Lehman, accused slayer in a feud over a wife, also faces district court, with heightened security days after a mansion feud flare.
W N Sanford, clerk of the Bowvella school district, began a census this week to count children ages six to twenty one. The statewide tuition money is allocated based on census results, with each name generating funds from 0 to 10 dollars for district tuition. Funds support teacher salaries and district school expenses.
District wardens will not be publicly announced by the North Dakota game commission. Secretary George M. Hogue says secrecy reduces embarrassment and deters violators. New deputies were named recently at a board meeting in New Rockford.
Ainegard North Dakota June 14 skid into a rut turned turtle rolling over three times injuring Robert Evans and Robert Houclman of this place and Mike Needer of Wil Aston. They escaped death after a ball game at Alexander. The car was a complete wreck with dislocated shoulders and scratches after Evans tried to pass another car on the grade.
In Williston North Dakota on June 14 George Kozo var, a Montanan homesteader near Opheim, is dead after a dispute over lodging costs. Joseph Pappe igs n, detained in Valley County jail Glasgow, is charged with murder. Both men are Rumanians.
Jamestown residents report Mrs. W. J. Lyon brought home with severe bruises and cuts after a Bowdon accident where the car went over a 15 foot embankment. Mrs. A. O. Grockman and daughter Esther suffered a broken arm and severe facial injuries but are expected to recover.
McVille North Dakota June 14 A prosperous farmer living five miles south of McVille died when a wagon wheel passed over him en route to Kloten with a grain load. The body lay in the road with the team nearby. He was a pioneer and one of the area’s wealthiest farmers.
A. E. Swanson of Bondbells Electric Light Co. departed Isat Sunday for St. Peal to handle matters connected with the local plant.
