Jamestown North Carolina June 6 Mrs Olga Eynon of Minneapolis sues her husband Arthur Eynon of Circle Montana for 30000 dollars for breach of promise alleging he agreed to remarry after their reconciliation but later married another woman without notice to her. The jury awarded 5000 dollars in federal court.
State food administrators met with Federal Chief Hoover to discuss wheat ration shifts from 50 50 to 70 30 or 60 40, aiming to conserve wheat amid a large crop in the Northwest. Officials plan to align prices of substitutes, curb profiteering, and keep substitute flour about 20 percent cheaper than wheat flour while preparing for possible future crop failures.
Bismarck North Dakota June 3 Two calls totaling 2000 men and 208 were issued by the provost general in Washington The 2000 men will entrain for Camp Dodge starting June 24 The 208 volunteers will entrain for Fargo June 16 for special training at the Agricultural College Only grammar school graduates and men with mercantile training will be accepted The men will receive college training for specialized work
District court opens Monday afternoon with Judge Velghion arriving on Train 105. Jury called Tuesday morning for criminal cases as civil matters proceed, list shows civil and criminal dockets and names of parties and jurors.
A letter from Camp Lewis bound soldiers thanks Burke county and Bowbells residents for the May 26 farewell. They praise the welcome, the climate, and Camp Lewis opportunities, signing Clin ton Van Niman and Henry Peter Schweyen of Depot Brigade, Camp Lewis Tacoma. The Trib notes Dickinson’s new federal building opening and acknowledges local candidates and visitors from Ovide county.
A Bowbells meeting last Saturday formed a home guard unit with 54 members. County Agent C. B. Edwards was elected captain, Deputy Clerk Shirley was named first lieutenant, and H. A. Hanson second lieutenant. The secretary will contact the adjutant general for further instructions. Drilling start date and uniforms are undecided.
A nonpartisan league rally will be held at Alfred Johnson grove five miles south of Bowbells this afternoon at two o'clock. State senate and legislature candidates will attend and discuss issues. Also notices announce a Children’s Day program at Westminster church on Sunday June 9 at 2:30 pm. The Bowbells Implement Co machinery hall is being repainted. Adolph Harms, ill with typhoid, is reported very low. R A Grams shows a new Buick, bought earlier in the week. Helen Randa Hepdall, 13, is named as daughter of Judge and Mrs Hepdall and suffers from lypoid fever.
Special Agent Johnson of the Northern Pacific railway helped sheriff arrest a Beach tailor and seize 63 gallons of whiskey. Johnson posed as a customer and arranged a purchase. the next morning the sheriff found 663 gallons labeled with Minnesota names. The tailor allegedly trafficked along the line under the guise of selling tailor samples.
H A Kirkelie of Minnesota township, Republican candidate for county commissioner, has kept busy harvesting and will start campaigning next week. Locals praise his independence, honesty, and business acumen, saying he won’t be bought or dictated to and would make an ideal county official. He is known for listening to proposals and balancing progress with prudence. Also noted are wartime draft registration details for N E Botton of Flaxton and a Bowbells Masonic group gathering for a district meeting.
M J Gores visited from Mc Gregor on Tuesday. Mrs Adolph Charles, once improving, suddenly worsened with little hope of recovery. Miss Swedland spent Saturday and Sunday in Powers Lake. Gilbert Larson was in town Tuesday. County superintendent of schools was in town Tuesday. Church services were held Sunday evening. Rev Larson arrived here from Hamilton on Sunday.
A Ford touring car carrying James Beck and four friends north of North Gate in Canada struck a deep rut Sunday afternoon. Beck received two black eyes a swollen forehead and scratches. Jack Brown was injured badly others had minor bruises. One front wheel shattered and other parts damaged as the car could not be slowed in time.
The States Attorney H A Hanson cannot tour voters before the primary due to the upcoming term of court. He has a strong record, saving taxpayers money by plea bargains, and reducing criminal cases. Voters are urged to remember his efficiency even if he cannot visit before the primary. Also noted are Red Cross speaker Harry Curran Wilbur's Burke county dates and receipt of 6015.87 in drive reports, and Bowbella district school board results with C J Campbell and C J Kopriva re-elected.
Minor North Dakota June 6 report details David Dubeau attacking Mrs. Ernest Forrest near Belfield after her rejection of his advances. He beat her, dragged her from a car, and ran over her multiple times before setting a house ablaze and shooting himself. Rescue attempts and hospital updates show Forrest near death, Dubeau in critical condition, with deputies arresting him after the incident at Davis Corner.
Napoleon North Dakota June ? Charge against Sheriff Z McElroy printer now held in county jail on $3000 bond for grand larceny in the Napoleon bank robbery March 27. The missing $636.30 and the death of assistant cashier Henry Blerndorff are not connected by the warrant.
Minot North Dakota June 6 James Anderson lived near Tatman township ten miles north of Minot died late yesterday when a disk failed and he became crushed beneath the machinery. Witnesses saw the team run wild in a field and rushed to help lifting the disk from him. No inquest was deemed necessary. The body was taken to Van Fleet company undertakers for burial preparations. He leaves a wife and six children. The community describes him as industrious, honest, and a good neighbor. The M E church ladies plan an event at Mrs B A Smiths home next Thursday hosted by Mesdames Smith and G an.
