Mandan North Dakota July 29 Nickclad six year old son of John Bechler was in a barnyard twelve miles north of the city when a horse kicked him in the forehead striking the skull. He was brought to Mandan hospital and operated on as physicians deemed it necessary to relieve pressure from the brain. He may live.
Fred N. Moulton was instantaneously killed by a bolt of lightning while standing in the door of a barn on his farm near Alexander North Dakota. He had just helped a hired man tend a cow during a thunderstorm. He leaves a wife and two children.
Minot N D July 29 William New fourteen miles from Minot died in a car accident while traveling with his family to see a circus The wagon loaded with wheat was rough locked down a hill Mr New walked behind the wagon The following automobile was driven at a reasonable speed Another car owned by H J Halvorson of Minot was nearby near the water stand below the wagon
An auto traveling behind a wagon could not pass in time as a Halver wagon blocked the road. Mr Livingstone could not brake promptly and a victim was crushed between the wagon and the car. The injured man died two hours later at St Joseph's hospital. Witnesses placed the wagon fifty to seventy five feet below the hill, noting the car could have passed safely. Differences in minor accident details were noted.
William R. Mumby, editor of the Buford Tribune and later the Fairview Tribune, died in a Williston hospital from injuries suffered in an automobile crash near the city about four weeks earlier. The veteran journalist, known across western North Dakota and eastern Montana, was thrown from a car that struck a picket rope across the roadway. A 12 year old child of Mr and Mrs Roschoth was found asleep two miles from Wat Home after a nightlong search. the child bitten by mosquitoes but otherwise unharmed.
Streeter N Dry Silly Jr Lont in field of barley. Erickson Bowbella bought a new Cadillac eight cylinder car from Bowbells Implement Co and shows the county’s classiest conveyance. W A Vorkman Fessenden came to town on Burke County Bank business.
Jack Duncan a ball player near Minot pleaded guilty to petit larceny after highway robbery charges were reduced. He was sentenced by Judge Leighton to eight days in jail and a fine of two dollars, plus an extra twenty days if the fine is unpaid, totaling fifty days due to lack of funds.
The Meth odist Episcopal Sunday School plans an August 4 rally at Mahoney Grove six miles from the city. Autos will carry attendees, a full program and sports committee are arranged, and a follow up day is planned if wet. Rev A Ho Beor and Mrs Hy Menges are listed in notices.
County authorities hunt James Baker, offering 200 reward for capture in an incendiary blaze that gutted the North Side livery and feed stable near Ross. Baker reportedly threatened the building before vanishing after the fire, later seen at the George Olson farm five miles south of Ross, where witnesses say he appeared intoxicated. Yankin ND July 29 A 24 year old farm hand on M E Sherek's land west of town was fatally injured while mowing hay. Entangled in a sickle the man was dragged by a team, sustaining severe leg injuries and blood loss. He died despite medical aid after being moved to the hospital. Chiropractors Christesen & Christesen will hold sessions in Bowbella and Co feau on specified afternoons and evenings.
Lisbon July 29 The Elliott depot was robbed of 50 in currency and several checks. Peter Reineard a transient was accused after attempting to cash a railroad payment check. Deputy Guilickwon arrested him. he is described as foreign and simple minded. Special agents of the Northern Pacific are pursuing the case and a hearing will be held soon.
Mrs Arthur Turner, arrested last week for stealing a handbag, pleaded guilty to vagrancy. She was sentenced to 17 days in jail or a 93 fine. She had recently arrived from Colgar and was taken to jail Saturday night. The article notes widespread hardship and mentions Canadians facing severe conditions.
