Reciprocity Bill Passes in Senate Without Amendment

Washington July 22 the Canadian reciprocity bill passed the senate 58 to 27 without any amendments. The measure becomes law upon the president's signature after final house concurrence and Taft's prior approval. The final vote followed a lively session with crowded galleries and swift roll calls.

Mission Festival and local notices at Flaxton

The German Lutheran St Pauls Congregation in Flaxton holds its second annual Mission Festival on Sunday August 6 with German language services at 10 30 am and English services at 2 30 pm at the Norwegian church. Dinner is served at noon and all are invited. President A C Wiper of the First National Bank travels to the Twin Cities for business and returns soon. Frank Dyer and Phil Trosky depart for western Canada to scout business opportunities and inspect Edmonton. they expect to be gone about two weeks. Miss Mary Champoux and Mrs Josephine Lambert leave August 1 for Quebec while Miss Eliza Peters may return next week to resume her former position. Try Tribune job work. Our aim is to please.

Carpio Farmer Plants Diverse Crops with Major Bean Acreage

Carpio North Dakota July 25 Richard Johnson, new landowner near Carpio, plants 25 acres wheat 25 acres corn 15 acres flax and 40 acres navy beans. Beans expected 50 to 80 bushels per acre valued at 2.75 dollars per bushel, with fall pulling and threshing ahead. Johnson says diversification could curb wheat disease and ease interest payments.

Masters Talks Of Tompkins Country

Constable C A Masters returns from Tompkins Saskatchewan after inspecting his claim four miles from Tompkins and three miles from Sidewood. He reports 320 acres of premier land and a booming harvest outlook with crops thriving after ample rain. He mentions locals Ban Mulamphy Pat Dignan John Conboy and John Tibbitts and notes Bert Coughlin’s growing business in Webb.

Dam Up Des Lacs Desires Dam to Save Area

Bowbells, N D July 25 1911 Local editor recounts Ireland born poet John Conway speaking of Lake Des Lacs water loss and drought. Letter from J W Ingison urges legislature and editor to rally Commercial Club for a dam near Kenmare to hold flood waters and protect pasture lands and fish. Also notes Dogden area crops failed driving farmers to migrate toward Canada with family plans to relocate.
