In Havana North Dakota on July 1 a five year old boy wandered from home during a heavy storm and fog. He was found sitting in bushes wrapped in a light sweater for warmth, saying it was too cold to sleep. He appeared none the worse for his ordeal.
Kensal resident Hugo eibe writes to the North Dakota Historical Society curator asserting he located a Sibley expedition camp from 1863. He notes trench outlines about a half mile long in the claimed area and cites records listing 2,690 men present, with trenches and earthworks described as visible and marked on the landscape.
A Williston North Dakota region farmer Halvor J. Munkegold aged 66 died by suicide after farm cows wandered into a wheat field and he could not drive them out. Neighbors found his body on a neighboring farm Saturday. depression linked to farm work troubles discussed by local residents.
Local readers using the kerosene emulsion method published June 11 report good control of small green insects on box elder trees. However the worms inside twigs resist spraying. experts advise cutting and burning affected branches as the only remedy for the boxelder twig borer larvae.
Jay Wacom of Norwich, North Dakota, a general store operator, is arrested on a grand larceny warrant. About $300 in goods bound for Wacom were stolen from the Great Northern express office on June 9, with $183 of value around wholesale terms. Wacom plans to plead guilty and will be sent to jail to receive a jail term of one to ten years.
Devils Lake N D July 1 In a wheat field near Lakota Fred Hensey and Cras Travnicek defeated a attacking lynx during a hunt. The animal nearly sprang at Hensey as Travnicek fanned it with a Was used. Hunters scour the area for the lynx mate feared in the vicinity.
Tolley Journal reports John Taute’s Feza automobile caught fire and burned within a minute while he took a short ride. He escaped by jumping from the vehicle after activating the emergency drill. The car, insured for 600 dollars, was insured thanks to prior advice about carrying insulators.
The Buxton post office near Hillaboro on the Great Northern was robbed this morning. A blast blew open the safe and seized registered packages and cash. total loot around 2,100 dollars plus stamps. No clues for the perpetrators. staff unharmed.
Gottloib Albert Strobel ten years old from Turtle Lake N D was killed by a bull on his family farm two miles east of town. He went to drive the cows home around 6 pm and was found unconscious with severe injuries after the bull apparently attacked him. He died at 7 30 pm before a doctor arrived. The boy remained conscious and described the leg injury and cold as his only pain. The bull had forced him down and rolled him but did not trampl e him.
In Grafton North Dakota on July 1 Simon Dokken 65 was crushed to death while repairing a rock pit under a large boulder. The body was found at 8 pm pinned beneath the rock with injuries to his shoulder and head. He was unmarried and lived in the area. brick maker Brick Dokken employed him this spring.
Minot North Dakota July 1 transient Sten Kee aur was killed Sunday at 8 AM near Berthold by freight train No. 401 of the Great Northern. He died about fifteen minutes later. Coroner’s inquest found death due to being run over while attempting to board the train. a jury viewed the scene and returned a verdict of accidental death.
In a fragmentary report Lucy Atal notes Thimble Club members met last Thursday hosted by Minsed Opal and Leora Ten Sen. Tim Luastl comments on cake and a narrow escape return while discussing plans for the next meeting with Ruth Bryan.
