Wrestling match fiasco ends with referee blamed

A Bowbells North Dakota state championship wrestling bout between Stefanowicz and Lavy collapsed into farce as referee Meyer from Lignite failed to understand the rules. Fans demanded refunds after instant pins in the first two rounds. Stefanowicz issued a challenge for a rematch in the area, while the crowd and local officials vowed tighter referee standards.

McGee May Run for District Judge in Minot

In Minot on December 28 politics heat up as talk of a district judge contest grows. George A McGee former state's attorney may challenge Judge K E Leighton though no formal announcement has been made. McGee has two terms of experience and strong local backing. County officials note session generosity at the courthouse as John Romine presented the staff with oranges apples candy and nuts after a long day. Berthold Woman Dies While Shopping

Berthold North Dakota December 23 Christmas joy turned to tragedy when Mrs W D Baumgardner collapsed during Christmas shopping. She had finished most of her list and was still holding tightly to her parcels when she died.

Clerk Miss Gill Takes Week Vacation From Deeds Office

Miss Maud Gill, a clerk in the Register of Deeds office under George Hanson, left last Friday for Pembina to spend Christmas with her parents. She will return Monday and the post is filled by Misa Alma Fredrickson during her absence.

Vinge Loses Out In Justice Court

A justice court case in which G. L. Bickford sued A. K. Vinge for $15 over a check signed by Vinge. The check was paid once, returned, and later presented again. Vinge refused to honor it a second time. The case, heard in The Tribune block, ended with Vinge losing and Rozen potentially liable for costs.

Socialist meetings and dance advertised in Burke county

The Burke county Socialists plan their annual convention next Monday at eleven. Ernest Utterman will speak on Socialism at the court house at 2 30 p.m. The opera house was unavailable due to a firemen's dance. Regardless of attendance, the community is urged to join the dance after the talks. A cuff link marked D was found at Smith and Rhode barber shop and can be claimed there.

Pioneer farmer committed to asylum after insanity hearing

Erick Lundgren of four miles west of Niobe was arrested Tuesday afternoon by Sheriff Stainhofer on insanity charges and committed to the state hospital at Jamestown after a three week mania about religion. The hearing featured attorney C. E. Pierson, Dr. A. L. Doe, and County Judge Carter. Lundgren, a married father of four, had tilled his farm ten years and was considered rational at times before his relapses.

Harvests and December Grop in McKenzie Co Journal

Gil bert Oland set a state record for late harvests by gathering forty seven acres of flax after snow halted field work. He and Ed Stedman rigged a binder with a snow attachment to clear deep snow and finish the cut within a week. Mrs. Oland celebrates four flax stacks. Deputy County Treasurer G Carlson left for Dawson Minn to spend Christmas with family, returning soon. Three Dead in Henhouse on Farm and Local News Nominations

Three people are reported dead in a farm henhouse with a thief sought after seed flax theft near Ambrose. A Bowbells school basket social raised 36.25 for a new organ and praise for Miss Estelle Coons. The Sherwood Tribune notes W D Brown’s suicide in his four mile southwest farm and upcoming council meeting schedule.

Burke county district court opens in Bowbells January fifteenth

The next Burke county district court term in Bowbells begins January 15 with about ten criminal and fifty civil cases to be disposed of. Most criminal matters involve blind signatures and only six citizenship applications will be heard. Sheriff Stainhoffer will subpoena jurors this and next week from a drawn list including Ole Hanson, Wm. Lind, Harry Glove, Geo. Conrad, Frank Reis, Lee Eaton, and others.
