Major J. Murphy a former Minot North Dakota resident and longtime political figure died at his Minneapolis home after a two year illness. He had moved to Minneapolis years ago to work with the Soo Line as an immigration agent. He was 64.

Bismarck N D December 19 After five hours of deliberation the jury found Devil Pennington guilty of manslaughter in the first degree and fixed the penalty at five years imprisonment. Pennington was indicted for murder in the first degree by the Hastings County grand jury over the death of Mrs L Perris of Hazelton in a wheat riot on June 1. Four other principal defendants were acquitted earlier this week.
