Wahpeton North Dakota December 9 1900 A unit of the North Dakota militia deputy sheriffs and armed citizens scour the countryside south of Wahpeton in pursuit of John Weldemeir who shot and killed Sheriff George E Moody while serving an eviction warrant at the Shea farm seven miles south of the city The killer fled toward a Stevenson farm then led a fast chase with posse members following by auto horse and on foot The pursuit extended into South Dakota near White Rock and Hankinson Burke county notes include the death of Erick Regnell and community Christmas programs The First National Bank statement is cited as proof of stability for local burke county residents
