Velva Man Slugged At Minot On Soo Tracks
Anton Bratien of Velva was slugged and robbed of fifteen dollars on the Soo tracks in Minot. Barnett, a laborer, was arrested for taking Bratien to the tracks where the assault occurred. Bratien described Barnett and the two attackers. a lead pipe was found at the scene. Barnett is jailed awaiting further action.

Jail break attempt at Minot Jail reported
A Black man named Thomas, held on a charge of stealing an overcoat, allegedly cut two jail bars with a knife though the tool was deemed impossible. He claimed the saw came through the window from George Ball, who was rearrested. The first bar is severed and a second was being started. Thomas awaits trial on the original charge.

Joseph Paglena a butcher in Sawyer was taken by twenty five villagers last Monday evening stripped of his clothes tied to a tree and horsewhipped for alleged cruelty to his wife and family. Witnesses say Paglena frequently drank heavily and neglected his family prompting the citizens to act after failed admonitions. He returned home after a night of drinking and was surrounded by masked men who removed his clothes tied him to a tree and whipped him until he begged for mercy and promised to reform. The incident, viewed by locals as warranted punishment, may not result in legal action.
