Restraining Order Delays County Court House Contract
In Stanley North Dakota on August 20 a restraining order halted the letting of bids for the new county courthouse. The action, filed by Palermo supporters, seeks to move the county seat to Palermo and may require a November election vote. Judge Fisk will hear why the order should not remain in force. The delay will cost taxpayers and risk litigation. Mrs. Henry Brown won a New Royal cabinet sewing machine from Donovan Brothers and collected it after returning to her farm on Saturday.

Addition onto Ken Mare Roundhouse in Kenmare
A two week carpentry effort adds a nine stall extension to the Soo Roundhouse on the west side, spanning 320 by 100 feet. Built with cement, crushed rock, brick walls, and 12 by 12 stringers to handle Ambrose line traffic, rails are nearly laid and ballasted. A regular passenger run on the new extension is expected this fall with freight every other day.

Double Drowning At Beach Sunday
Beach North Dakota August 28 drowning of Mr and Mrs Leo Hart in Davis Creek Sunday evening shocked residents. The couple traveling with Mr and Mrs Victor Phersson of Medora were swept from their buggy crossing a flooded creek twelve miles south of Medora. Phersson reached the bank and helped the wife who survived, while the Harts were found dead after searches that began Monday morning. The report notes the creek’s velocity and the failed crossing. Langdon North Dakota August 28 Andrew Brady longtime Olga resident and pioneer dies of heart failure in a tragic incident. His body was found in a large well near the house after his son James Brady returned from a neighbor for help and bubbles on the water surface aided the recovery. Efforts to revive him failed.

Viability standards updated for North Dakota seed sales
The 1913 law requires seeds sold for sowing in North Dakota to reach at least sixty percent viability or be illegal to sell. Farmers and seed growers should test seeds, classify low viability as feed, and preserve moisture-free, dry seeds. The new law also allows certified quality and breed certificates issued under seal to standardize seed quality for buyers.

Thomas Murphy, drunk and arguing with a group of hobos near Wipperman store, slashed a transient in the back causing a inch deep wound. Hankinson North Dakota August 28 a man claiming to be H. E. Dailey attempted pass forged checks at a drug store and other shops. He filled them with fictitious names, bought a suit at Max Wexler's, was captured by Officer Phillips, escaped two nights later, and remains at large despite a manhunt.

Sheriff Captures McKenzie Postoffice Robbers
Sheriffs Frank Barnes Ed Barnes and Duncan McGillis headed to McKenzie after a postoffice safe was opened with a cold chisel. About $80 was taken plus $45 in mail money overlooked in the desk. Suspects Fitzpatrick and J B Rogers were nabbed near Driscoll after stormy weather drove them from a field. Each carried $38 when arrested and inconsistent stories flagged their guilt.

Kopriva entered into a contract with Fred Koehler Jr for a 25x70 foot concrete building on the lot between the Hunter hardware store and the opera house. Construction to begin at once with a galvanized iron roof and one story concrete block walls. The structure will enhance Main street by filling the gap between the First State Bank and the opera house. No renter yet, but confidence in securing one before completion. Location regarded as among the town’s best.
