Ward County Fair opens its first annual exhibit at the Minot fair grounds September 28 to 30. James J. Hill, president of the Great Northern Railway, will address farmers on the opening day and open the event. The Algona Iowa Courier reports W F Hofius born 1830 in Sharon Pennsylvania after a long illness he is laid to rest in Algona. He was a founder and member of the Baptist church and leaves seven children with three surviving. Services were held by Rev Porterfield at the family grave with a large procession to the cemetery.

A single man homesteading on a Williston area farm died from self inflicted gunshot. Neighbors noticed him setting a new binder, and within days the body was found decomposed on the premises. Coroner Thomas ruled it a suicide. burial followed on the farm amid speculation of despondency and isolation.
