Rural Mail Carrier Examination Notice in Stampede County

The United States Civil Service Commission announces an examination for rural carrier vacancies in Stampede and other county post offices. Eligible applicants must be 18 to 55, domiciled in the county, and male citizens of the United States. Salary ranges from $600 to $1,000 annually. age waivers apply for veterans. Application forms and details are available from the local examining board secretaries, postmasters, or the Civil Service Commission in Washington. Applicants must file timely to ensure paper shipment and examination scheduling. An eligible register will be kept, and after one year’s service, rural carriers may transfer to other postal positions if qualified.

Fargo men held for mail fraud in circulation contest

M N Hatcher and A M Baker of Fargo former directors in Courier News Publishing were arrested on charges of using the mails to defraud. Officials say the circulation contest violated the law with underfunded prizes and misrepresentation. A hearing is set for August 23 before U S Commissioner Montgomery with U S Attorney Engerud for the government.

Carpio Man Struck by Train in North Dakota

Jens Jenson, 75, pioneer of Carpio, North Dakota, was struck by Soo Line train No. 105 while walking on the tracks. Deafness prevented hearing the whistle. he died en route to Kenmare after being taken from Carpio. He leaves a wife and daughter. Coroner's inquest planned in Kenmare. funeral expected in Carpio. George C Benno Marries Esther Brant In Harvey North Dakota

George C Benno manager of Benno Drug Co at Bowbells applies to married life with Miss Esther Brant at Harvey North Dakota home of the bride's parents Tuesday evening. After a wedding supper the couple left for Chicago and eastern states for their honeymoon returning to Bowbells next month to establish a home. Benno, well known in Bowbells, previously worked at Minot. Bride a banker’s daughter from Harvey, skilled in several arts and respected in the community. The Bowbells Tribuneextends best wishes for a long happy marriage. Also notes L C Welter now brakeman on the Soo line and Fred Frebel replacing him on the county payroll.

Regina man seals $5000 Toffelmeyer farm deed near border

Last Saturday Mr Hill of Regina Sask paid $1 and then $4999 for a deed to the Toffelmeyer farm near the Canadian line where Grand Trunk and Great Northern roads meet. He plans surveying part of the land into town lots and aims to attract a Great Northern town. Bowbells Cash Store seeks cream, offering 22 cents cash and 24 cents in trade.

Progressive party calls Fargo convention for state ticket

Dorr H. Carroll announced a state central committee plan for a Progressive party convention in Fargo on September 6 to nominate a full state ticket for the November election. Each county will send six delegates, including the county committee members, the county chair and secretary, and their alternates. Mrs. Mary Bramblee, mother of Mrs. W. C. Martin, has shown improvement after a three week illness.

Twine shortage ends as harvest binds all North Dakota grain

North Dakota reports the twine shortage is over thanks to a rush of production from International Harvester Co with twine shipped from New York harbor to Chicago and into fields last Saturday. The Bowbells public school opens with Prof. J H Clemmons in charge for the new term and a large enrollment is anticipated. The Bowbells hospital reports minor injuries to a 4 year old swallowed chloride of lime and Edward Andrews underwent a slight operation recently.
