Gold Biscuit Is Well Rewarded

Evanaville Indiana August 6 A reward totaling 87000 dollars was awarded to Mrs Mattie Hannan for a kind act done twenty four years earlier in Vincennes when she fed a wandering man later known as Marshall McMurran The man wrote his will on brown paper giving the fortune to her She later proved the will in court after delays and two trials and the relatives chose not to appeal, securing the estate for Mrs Hannan who also received gold and property as part of the settlement

Judge Buttz Dismisses Di Monds Election Contest

Hartzell rode from Ludlow toward Connell ranch to brand calves and vanished. After four days his body was found near his dead horse, unconscious with no clear injuries. He survived four days, and a passing berry picker witnessed the scene unaware of the prior tragedy.

Grind stone blast kills farmer in Golden Valley

In Golden Valley North Dakota on August 6 a grind stone explosion killed Matthew Bauer, a farmer, who tried to true up an ancient stone. A shop allowed him to mount the stone on a shaft if he worked alone. The moment the steel touched the stone an explosion tore through the workshop injuring others and crushing Bauer's skull.

County seat fight ends as Burke court dismisses case

Judge Buttz dismissed the Sam L. Dimond contest declaring Bowbells the permanent Burke county seat after late examination of supreme court rulings. The Lignite faction may appeal within a year while a separate suit over defending canvassing costs proceeded, with a decision expected in about sixty days.

River's FREAKS MAY PROVE EXPENSIVE

Army engineers urge immediate steps to shore up the Missouri River bank near the Williston irrigation project to prevent water flow into an old channel three miles away which would halt the system until costly new intakes can be built. Professor E F Chandler notes the bank is eroding and at risk of diverting water away from the pumping station. Attorney John J. Auto plunges into Red River drowning four from Drayton

In Drayton North Dakota four members of a six person auto party drown when their Kissel car plunges down a hill into the Red River near the ferry landing en route from a Hallock Minnesota trip. John A. Johnson, his wife, and their 12 year old son Wilkes, along with R A Stewart and chauffeur John Anderson perished. Mrs Johnson was found later that evening. Anderson barely escaped with his life.

City Adds Water Trough and Goose Neck at Bank Corner

The city received the water trough and goose neck this Tuesday and will install them at the First National Bank corner within a day or two. Water will come from the city mains and surplus will be routed to the city sewer. The new equipment will greatly aid farmers visiting town for trading and business.
