Local notes chronicle births, travels, and small-town happenings. Anson of Willow City joins Henter Dry company, barbers and milliners plan openings, travels include Grand Forks and Bottineau, while several residents face illness injuries and weather delays affect events.
Roy Sims of the Evans fleet writes from Callao Peru dated February 28 1908 describing arrival February 20 expected departure February 29 salutes with twenty one guns in Rio de Janeiro and Valparaiso a Lima bullfight for sailors two thousand men 600 officers attended one horse killed one rider wounded and a fatal accident near the arena with a man thrown fifteen feet onto a bull horn in center of event.
Edith Kerchenfall closed her Oak Creek school. Maggie Orr began teaching in Hague and Ethel Waterman will open Haskett school in Amity district Monday. Mrs J Way Huey from Eckman visited the county superintendent’s office.
Col C B Little of Bismarck stands strong in the senatorial race and plans a Bottineau county visit. The portrait highlights his birth in the new state, service as president pro tempore in 1896 97, seven years on the Republican State Central Committee, and 1898 state convention chair. He led Capital National Bank since 1886 and consolidated First National Bank by 1895.
In Pembroke New Hampshire 1857 born, Col Little rose from farm chores to Dartmouth Scholar. He studied law, moved to Bismarck in 1882, served as probate judge, inspector general, and since 1886 as North Dakota state senator. He chairs the judiciary committee and is praised as honest fit and capable to represent the state in Washington.
A farmer advertises a car load of farm seeds including corn, grass and garden seeds at reasonable prices. The Great Northern replaces the Sherwood branch passenger train with a mixed train leaving Sherwood at 6 30 am and arriving Minot at noon. Return run leaves Minot at 12 30 pm arriving Sherwood at 8 30 pm. Subscriptions urged.
Returns from elections in organized townships of Hattineau County show incumbents re-elected in many precincts with several still unreported to County Auditor Iver M. Brandford. The piece lists township by township leaders and officials elected or reported.
Bottineau residents aim to make the city an ideal home by securing a public library. The community already enjoys strong schooling, including grade schools, a first class high school, and the State School of Forestry, which attract families considering where to live.
A large Greiner's opera house audience enjoyed home talent in The Heir to the Hoorah despite stormy weather. Cast members delivered solid performances and the show outshone visiting professionals. proceeds benefit the Catholic church. Notable cast included Morels, Forest, Harry Shige, Mrs J M Kett, Emily Wetste, Joe Daye, L Binder, Kate Brandon, Moon, Bud Youn, AL Vannellister, Thurman, Ferguson, Kalbfetach, Winthop, Madge Unney, and Dr Whipple with intermission entertainment by Harry Shigeta.
The Methodist Episcopal Church invites all to Sunday at 11 o'clock for a sermon by the pastor followed by Sunday school at 12 15 and Epworth League at 6 30. A memorial meeting for Bishop Fowler will be held led by C W Fielder replacing the usual league gathering. Prayer meeting and Matthew study occur Wednesday at 7 30. Courant subscription available.
