Carl Sutherland once of Oklahoma the youthful porcelain murderer of Captain Walter Auble left letters claiming a remarkable criminal career. He said he was born in Lamar Missouri joined a gang that terrorized the area and aided two men in depot robbery near Weed Kansas and deputy shooting. The gang held up trains near Malvern Arkansas and near Mem phis. Captured by a vigilance committee he escaped and later robbed a vigilante. Members killed several men locally and later boarded a Choctaw train near Memphis. Sutherland was arrested in the Creek Nation and sent to reform school in Booneville Missouri. He later claimed army service as a musician, desertion Monterey California work as waiter in Los Angeles, and Canada train and streetcar robberies including South San Francisco. He gave gang names and aliases Joseph Palmer.

State liquor traffic ruled private business by court
