Beaver City notes a busy week with visits from Hibbs and Elmwood residents, hunts for a cook at White House Hotel, and social calls from locals in Liberal and Kansas City. Subscriptions, politics, and real estate moves mix with family visits and school events.
A Beaver area editor recounts a six week North tour in August visiting St. Paul for the National Editorial Association annual session. He notes being the sole Oklahoma delegate, praises the hospitality, and describes Minneapolis–St. Paul landmarks, a reception at the Minnesota Capitol, a vaudeville event, and several excursions to Stillwater including the Younger brothers’ homeland, a state prison, an Atwood museum, and a St Croix river boat trip.
A party tours the White Enamel Refrigerator Company plant near St Paul. They admire the elegant exterior, the three acre lawn, and the flower-filled grounds. After inspecting the refrigeration lines and sizes, guests enjoy a luncheon and a bountiful collation before retiring to their hotel after a most delightful day.
The Beaver resident and longtime ranch owner Joe Hanlin died suddenly in Liberal last Wednesday night after a day of chest pains misread as a cold. A pioneer cattleman and wealthy rancher, he moved to Liberal about a year ago to run a mercantile business and was widely respected. The community expresses deep sorrow and sympathy to his wife and relatives.
Beaver residents organized a search Friday evening for Billy Culwell who wandered from town and was found by Prof. Perry in a vacant lot south of Beaver. The boy appeared unafraid but happy to be returned to his parents.
Mrs. WL Willbour and Mrs Edoo Keardeley traveled to Hoffalo to establish a Hebekah Lodge. Reported as starting under favorable conditions with steady membership growth and a commitment to service.
An abrupt temperature drop took effect Monday morning with frost blanketing the area. Heavy frost caused minor material damage as the cold snap intensified the next day.
