Blaze at Allen Oste Premises Suppressed by Fire Dept

A small morning fire at the Allen Oste area was extinguished by the fire department as firefighters arrived near the Alien Cafe. The blaze started from a defective frebox in the kitchen range and burned a hole through Muscadine Punch at Jeff's.

Beaver County launches its first National Army quota with five volunteers seen off at the depot. The Red Cross presents fruit and supplies as a crowd wishes them Godspeed. Three more men were called but did not report for duty, raising concerns of possible deserter status.

Gar wear destroyed by fire near Riverside ranch accident

E L Fickel and his brother Walter were driving near Riverside when a wheel dropped into a road hole, causing fuel to siphon and ignite. Fire spread to the car front before local help doused the blaze, leaving only scorched wiring and blistered paint. the car was rewired and repaired.

Broomcorn Prospects Rise After Rain in Beaver County

Norval Wright, visiting from Balko, reports broomcorn recovery after dry conditions. A prior 60 acre field suffered near failure as parched bridges fell, but now green growth promises a fine brush crop. Maize and other raw crops also showed earlier failure but are gaining value with timely rainfall. Beaver County is praised for productivity.
