A small morning fire at the Allen Oste area was extinguished by the fire department as firefighters arrived near the Alien Cafe. The blaze started from a defective frebox in the kitchen range and burned a hole through Muscadine Punch at Jeff's.
The firm of Carson and Company in real estate loans and insurance dissolved this week Geo H Wright who bought into the firm recently retires Mrs W F Carson remains in charge of the business office after Mr Carson's retirement over a year ago due to health concerns
Beaver County launches its first National Army quota with five volunteers seen off at the depot. The Red Cross presents fruit and supplies as a crowd wishes them Godspeed. Three more men were called but did not report for duty, raising concerns of possible deserter status.
E L Fickel and his brother Walter were driving near Riverside when a wheel dropped into a road hole, causing fuel to siphon and ignite. Fire spread to the car front before local help doused the blaze, leaving only scorched wiring and blistered paint. the car was rewired and repaired.
Norval Wright, visiting from Balko, reports broomcorn recovery after dry conditions. A prior 60 acre field suffered near failure as parched bridges fell, but now green growth promises a fine brush crop. Maize and other raw crops also showed earlier failure but are gaining value with timely rainfall. Beaver County is praised for productivity.
Mrs. W H Robertson who ran a Beaver millinery shop for years sold the business this week to Mrs Annie L Jones and retires from millinery The store will continue as general merchandise Mrs Jones is an expert milliner and the friends and customers of Mrs Robertson are glad the transfer is to capable hands
Residents flocked to Liberal enjoying a Liberal Chautauqua week with visits to nearby city events. Many plan to attend this week’s big race meet and motor show as the town showcases its festivities. Seaver folks join the crowds in large numbers for the happenings.
Friends of Mr and Mrs W F Carson held a surprise party at their home Monday in honor of Mrs Carson birthday. The event was planned by Mr Carson and the children and included games socializing and refreshments.
A Beaver Oklahoma letter signed by local citizens urges Senator Thomas P Gore to resign citing obstruction to war measures and loyalty to the nation. It calls for a special election so Gore may defend his actions before the people. The list includes Henry P. Garrett and numerous civic officials.
Exclee Board of Beavar county Orrible ma calls an election for September 17 1917 in listed municipalities to approve an excess millage above the amount authorized to place on the tax rolls. The notice names the municipalities and positions for voters to mark.
