Guffy Named Superintendent for Beaver Schools Next Year

A. Guffy, slated to become Beaver school superintendent, is cited for strong Scholastic attainments and broad teaching experience. A Kentucky native, he studied at Southern Normal School Defiance College and Columbia University, taught in Pittsburg and Oklahoma City, and led a seven year Business Training department. He plans to introduce a practical Business Training course for graduation credit. He has resided in Harper County and has farming interests in Harper and Beaver counties, and will move to Beaver with his family before the new school year.

Pioneer Beaver County resident George Brown Sr passes away

George Packard Brown Sr. died at his Beaver County home on Friday May 7 after a two week illness. A 72 year old with long health battles, he established a large family with his wife. He leaves his wife, eleven children, and many grandchildren. Funeral services Saturday were directed by the local Odd Fellows lodge with burial in Bouvert Cemetery.

Cemetery cleanup urged by Mother's Club workers

In response to a Mother's Club request volunteers gathered at the cemetery last week to tidy neglected gravel and the graves. Despite good turnout the effort fell short of full participation and more help is urged before Decoration Day. Relatives and friends are asked to keep gravesites in respectable condition and lend a hand to maintain the resting place of loved ones. Library gains twenty five volumes for community use

Mrs Loorborough recently presented a library to the Mothers' Club, now containing 169 volumes. The free collection, cared for by Mrs BL, invites gifts of good books from others to benefit the community and extend its availability.
