The return of overseas troops disproves claims that Red Cross socks and sweaters were scarce. Veterans report receiving the gear, contradicting propaganda. The piece urges trust in government and Red Cross while condemning defamatory remarks.
General Pershing urges more Red Cross and community support for overseas troops. Mrs Couch and Mrs Fickel along with Roscoe Risley and spouses plan to depart tomorrow for Oklahoma City as delegates from Beaver Lodge to the Grand Lodge of the Pythians.
Beulah, deputy county clerk, notes that discharges recorded at the county clerk’s office are now free since April 2. Veterans charged earlier fees will receive refunds upon application. A permanent record helps replace lost papers and speeds copies from Washington.
At the latest county commissioners session bids were ordered for bridging the Mexican Arroyo just north of Beaver on the Beaver to Forgan state road. The Herald notes the board finally agreed to install a small bridge, thinner than a culvert, which had been long delayed.
The final result of last Tuesday's election shows the $50,000,000 Road Bond proposition decisively defeated in prac county, Beaver County voted strongly against it. The Herald notes residents prefer good dirt roads that are graded and maintained and believe the newly elected County Commissioners will find a way to build and maintain acceptable roads without bonds.
On a pond near the mouth of Home Creek west of Beav, A G Thomas and Harry Niles found three cow hides in sacks weighted with rocks. The hides show the brands cut out. cattle likely belonged to J E George, a local cattle owner. The article warns that such thefts will be punished and urges communities to deter similar acts.
A. McKie of near Lorena visits the Herald and condemns the county road policy. He charges the Board of County Commissioners has squandered road funds for six years with little if any road improvement. He cites a state road by his farm as unusable in wet weather and notes volunteers repair roads at their own expense.
W Thompson buys the McKillips building in a real estate transfer. Thompson, former owner of a hotel, purchased the property now occupied by a cafe and rooms. Plans include possible use for a business and furnishing ventures. details pending.
A. G. Daniel, Boyd County Commissioner elect for the Third district, visited Beaver and reported progress on state road work. He emphasized extending a key McLain road across the county to link Texa to Kansas, arguing it would raise taxable value, improve communication with nearby towns, and boost local prosperity through better schooling, church access, markets, and travel.
Beavar callers Mr Byers and son Walter promoted the Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad from Liberal to Forgan. They were optimistic about a Beaver terminus and urged local towns to show strong interest with bonuses to attract the line. Rice of Forgan visited and ordered a new Intertype. editor hopes machine troubles end soon.
The Liberal Kansas News issues a monster special edition highlighting Seward County servicemen across army navy and marine corps. It features farm and town scene cuts and abundant reading matter, praising editor Zimmerman and staff for a publication that benefited town and county advertisers.

The government advertises enlistment in Quartermaster, Signal, Ordnance, Dental, Veterinary, Air Service, and Motor Transport and Tank Service with ages 18 to 56. Men 18 or older may register, with potential enlistment at 21. Training plans include schools and possible commissions, starting pay $20 per month plus board, lodging, medical and dental care for a year.
