Mrs. Ben Hoff of Balko operates 356 White Leghorns and shows a February net of 49.60 after expenses. The article notes her poultry operation as a promising enterprise and mentions husband Ralph Hoff tending hog raising on their farm nearby.
Four year old Pauline Foster daughter of County Clerk Aura Foster died after severe burns suffered when a trash fire burned near the home. Her parents Mr and Mrs Foster were burned while trying to save her. Funeral services were held at the Christian church with Rev L L Shaw officiating. Interment followed at Beaver cemetery.
The K C Star notes George Murphy former Missouri half miler now coaching at Polytechnic Institute. Poly clocked 3 minutes 47 seconds in a recent Kansas City A C meet, near Missouri’s time, with a possible future dual against William Jewell and a Missouri Kansas clash in Convention Hall. Beaver also lauds the B H4 Glee Club as they reappeared at Globe with new numbers, led by Mrs Homer Hill and accompanist Mrs Alma Crabtree, praising their lively Straw Ride performance.
Mrs. T L Ogilvie reports a flock of 150 Brown Leghorns north of Beaver with gross income of 643.00 for the past month. The article notes poultry success and mentions market consolidations affecting Beaver’s meat and grocery trade and a new five room farm bungalow nearing completion south of Beaver.
Dedicatory rites were held Tuesday night at the new Beaver grade school. Northwestern State Normal President Graves attended and delivered the dedicatory address and died during it. Rev L L Shaw presented the keys, W T Quine read the acceptance, and the High School Glee Club provided music. Pancakes and wafers followed, with blessings and praise for the school as a monument to Beaver’s spirit and future generations.
Rev Johnathan Perkins from Wichita begins duty at Beaver Methodist Church for the coming year. Perkins recently held a revival in Beaver and is welcomed warmly by members and friends. He and his family will move into the parsonage south of the church as goods arrive from Wichita this week.
The Ridesn-Wee club met last week with Mrs. Frank Laughlin. Members present included Mesdames Carson Stranathan Healy Smith Maple Savage Tracy Davis Lawson Thomas Laughlin and guests Mesdames Smith Feese Gilliland and Jones. The group discussed Animals and enjoyed a social hour with salad cake and coffee.
J. J. Teagarten a leading Gate County citizen and east end Republican leader died in an auto crash last Thursday evening. He was driving a Ford with several children when the car overturned near the railroad tracks just outside Gate. Teagarten died instantly and one girl was badly injured.
The infant child of Mr and Mrs John Lawan was seriously burned Saturday when a pan of boiling linseed oil spilled. Crawling on the floor the child touched the hot oil on hands arms and stomach. The patient is critically ill but slightly improved at present.
