On the Woodward County case witness Harrison White testified that Ed Smith was killed by a blow from a club by Sam Houston and that White only dragged Smith’s body a mile away tied by a rope around the neck and saddle horn. The discovery of Smith’s body near Palace, Hareper county, shocked residents.
The temperance program rendered by Normal students at the court house Friday night was well attended and all report an enjoyable evening.
Miss Bertha Hibbs daughter of M B Hibbs of Blownwood and Frank Cross of Blownwood were married in Texas and returned this week to their new home. They receive many congratulations from friends on the happy event.
Revival meetings are in progress at the M E B church this week conducted by Rev. Anderson of Wichita. He is an interesting speaker and a yearned man, and it is hoped the meetings will result in much good.
A severe electrical storm hit the region Monday around 6 am followed by heavy rain. Lightning was continuous and thunder roared throughout. No damage was reported from the storm.
Balko defeated Liberal 6 to 0 in the Sunday clash at Liberal after a high scoring Saturday affair. The Saturday game saw Liberal win narrowly as Balko struggled in the later stages.
The Beaver "kid" nine traveled to Sands City last week for two games. Both sides won one game each as Beaver faced Sands City's first team and claims they overcame big odds in the opener, noting Sands City used strong early lineups.
A pretty wedding at the M E Church Tuesday united Mise Eli Crawford and Mr Walter Fincher of Floris in the presence of Rev James Ballinger. The couple, popular with many friends, received best wishes for happiness and success.
The townsite of Moquero on the Dawson Branch of the El Paso and Southwestern Railroad opens to the public July 10 for highest bid sale of all lots. Moquero aims to become the leading town of Northeastern New Mexico. a special train from Toomneari to Moquero departs July 6 with excursion rates available from the south and east. The Beaver County Tolies Association’s third annual camp meeting will be held at Taintora Grove, 21 miles north of Knowles, from June 12 until finish. Rev. J.T. Molloy, Evangelist, will lead sessions. T. J. Panton serves as president.
The Beaver team will play Maxwell on June 7 and Sands City on June 28. They travel to Balko and Couch on July 4, Caleyville on July 6, Sands City on July 6, Zelma on July 7, and Maxwell again on July 7. Grounds will be fenced with gate charges and 100 seats in the grand stand, children admitted free except to the grand stand.
