Duty bound soldiers and townsfolk are noted as they recalled visits and travels. PVT Fay Davis of Camp Bowie Texas and N B Davin with wife spent Sunday at Rosston returning to Beaver that evening. Feilding and shopping appear among Beaver City residents during the holiday period.

Tulsa geologist E H DeBore and Kansas City’s Joe H Lisle are visiting to review land leases once held by Bunkers Oil & Gas Co and American Petroleum Co. They plan arrangements for an early tent well in the area. Miss Jeswin Keith resumes duties after illness. her mother returns to Gray.
The Reaver abhoole return to duty after holiday break with Mrs. J Duncan unable to resume. Rev. J Perkins covers briefly as Loii McCowan from Alva takes primary room post formerly held by Mins Murphy. Mina Tella Bean stetter from Alva fills vacancy at birth school due to Mina Maccubrie’s resignation. Superintendent Mill benefits from a full teaching corps returning after two months.
An enthusiastic gathering at Riverside school house in district 121 organized a Beaver County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Rev I L Shaw spoke on humanity and patriotism. Mrs J H McDevitt elected chairman with Mrs L B E Dram as secretary treasurer. County Agent J F Newsom attended a county agents meeting in Stillwater. Additional notes mention local families and ongoing health concerns of Mrs DeGraw.
A wartime New Year letter from 1st Lieutenant A. Mabry at Camp Stanley Texas to his parents. He writes of Christmas leave, health and high spirits, intent to serve 265 days this year, and his devotion to nation and God.
Lee Hulse reports District No. 64 achieves 100 percent Junior Red Cross enrollment with every pupil as a member. The plan, 26 cents per pupil, urges county schools to follow and report their status. Prof. W Homer Hill in Beaver can provide more details for teachers and principals.
Mrs EliDean Fincher traveled from Floris Monday to supervise the formation of a Red Cross branch in Beaver County. Floris had previously organized an auxiliary to Forgan Branch but rapid growth necessitated a branch of its own. Mrs Sam Long chairs and Mrs Ell Dean Fincher serves as secretary treasurer, with strong community work reported.
Read this week’s Herald for the Dixie Clothing Company quit business sale. The ad promises bargns on apparel with doors opening Saturday January 12 and sale running through Saturday January 10.
Mrs HM Drake of Dombey sustained serious head injuries and bruises after falling from an iron fence near the Niles building steps on Tuesday. She left hospital caretaking and returned home yesterday as County Attorney Twyford and Dr. Mary Twyford’s hospital work continues amid wartime strains.
A notice from Internal Revenue Collector Herbert L. Bolen announces a federal income tax officer will visit Beaver county from January 18 to 30, providing free help to prepare 1917 returns. Taxpayers must file by March 1, 1914, and may face fines or jail for failure to file. The officer will be in the courthouse, offering guidance on deductible expenses and the scope of income. Miss Erma Crabtree spent holidays in Wichita with relatives.
Mrs Parmelia Morris age 72 died Monday at her home ten miles southwest of Beaver. She was the mother of her son with whom she made her home. Funeral arrangements were to be announced.
Court Clerk DeGraw sold his improved farm ranch home to R L Russell who owns adjoining land. The sale includes a nearby parcel with provisions for future development and upstanding improvements. Russell plans to consolidates his holdings with the neighboring property.
The ten days old Ray infant of Mr. and Mrs. H A residence five miles south of town died Saturday. Funeral services were held Sunday and interment was in the Blaver cemetery.
