The Gambe Hotel on Knowles suffered a Saturday blaze caused by a hot cookstove too near a wall. Firefighters controlled it after occupants removed furniture and a bose cart helped. Proprietor R A Marr sustained burns to his hands.
Mrs G L Wall and children of Ada arrived in Beaver Thursday night. Mr Wall works for H N Lawson Abstract Company and rents the C K Drum property for the family. Ross Spurrier celebrated his fourteenth birthday with a party hosted by Mr and Mrs J E Spurrier. Guests included Genevieve Stranathan Eleanore Tracy Pauline Barnes Gail Peckham Alta Brooks Helen Cayler Bessie Barker Roe Williams Hale Loofbourrow Rex Quinn Raymond Kimball. Lois Quinn weekend visit with Mr and Mrs L E Wheeler at Sharon. Wheeler friends from Weatherford now teaching at Sharon. Mrs Louise Stevenson visiting Earl Shore at Forgan this week.
An enthusiastic meeting of the United Grain Growers Association was held in the courthouse on Monday afternoon December 19. The group debated building an elevator in Beaver with a committee on investigation to report in February. W B Leonard presided as temporary chairman and Fred Ginter served as temporary secretary. About sixty to seventy members attended, with one hundred forty four signed up. Attending were Loyd Laughlin A Grainer W B Jesse and County Agent W Hanly. D B Kinder traveled to Liberal Kansas and then Wichita for eye treatment after two weeks of trouble, following physician advice.
R H Loofbourrow left Wednesday for Miami Oklahoma to join his wife. From there they will go to Lebanon Tennessee to spend the holidays with their son Bernard a Cumberland University student. J W Renfrow spent last week at his home near Balko and returned to Beaver Saturday.
Beaver's Christmas Seal Sale surpassed the state quota with a total of about 75 dollars. The editor organized local effort, raising sixty five fifty plus twenty four dollars in stamps for teachers to sell. Community support is praised while a few chronic kickers are noted. Monroe Horne and Eura Allmani delivered a Christmas tree for the Baptist church and several area farmers attended a Grain Growers meeting in Beaver.
Sheriff and deputies raided moonshine stills north of Knowles and near Lorena capturing gear, whisky, and mash. Arrests included William McCullough James Medley Scarborough James Orr and D Wolf plus Dan Rambo. Guilty pleas by LaTen Scarbrough and James Medley with fines and short jail terms.
The Woodward County Medical Society met in Woodward on December 7 to elect 1922 officers. Officers named included President Dr Bagby Supply Vice President Dr J M Workman, Secretary Treasurer Dr C W Tedrowe and Dr Forney for one year plus D J Patterson two years and Dr Triplett three years. Delegates to the State Medical meeting were Drs Houser and J G Patterson with Bagby and W Tedrowe as alternates. The 1922 meetings are set for February April June October and December. The program committee is Drs Forney and W Tedrowe. C A Johnson was named interstate commissioner from Chicago. Beaver’s bureau of Vihom tien interest noted.
