Local families report travel from Nebraska and Wichita

Dr L L Long and family returned Saturday from a motor trip to Nebraska where they visited Mrs Longs sister. J H Shearer and family came back early in the week from a short mountain trip. M Barr of Blue Label Cleaners returned last week from Wichita with a new Chevrolet touring car and arranged to handle Chevrolet in this territory.

Old paper reveals 1814 Albany bill of sale for enslaved person

Lee Hulse brings a preserved document to his office showing an 1814 Albany bill of sale by Stewart Lewis selling Frederick the enslaved man to Samuel Tappan for eight years. The record includes witness seals and mentions age, terms, and defense of title. Also noted is an 1850s patent to Henry Patten from President James Buchanan for land in Springfield Illinois.
