Boost to tobacco fund from coyote scalps bounty

John W. Taft of Sperrmore visited the county seat last week and left an order for six dollars from the Board of County Commissioners bounty on three coyote scalps. He directed the funds to be applied to the Boys in France Tobacco Fund, a plan agreed to by Taft and companions who had captured the coyotes while harvesting. The boys overseas will appreciate the gift as they press on against the Huns.

Relative of Gate Man Killed in Action

Lieut. C. Thos. Hopkins nephew of J. A. Hopkins promoter of Gate Valley Oil Company Gate Kansas was killed in action in France recently his home was in Wichita Kansas last week report reached Mr. Hopkins.

Lone Star Branch Reports Strong Craft Output

Mrs J L Duerson chairing supplies for Lone Star Branch of A R C Dombey visited Beaver Friday with Indies from the branch. She reports the work as extremely good and lists finished garments including 110 bed shirts pajama suits 35 bed socks 55 knitted socks 29 pairs sweaters 9 mufflers 4 helmets 1 wristlets 2 pairs.

O Mendenhall of Gate Oklahoma expresses gratitude to voters of the 1st district for support in the nominating primary. He praises opponents for a clean campaign and vows to merit the courtesy shown. A 95 inch rain fell last night and today, benefiting property prospects and promising more.

New Sugar Rules Tighten Rationing Across County

Beginning August 1, sugar dealers must limit to two pounds per person monthly and public eating places to two pounds per ninety meals. The County Food Administrator warns strict observance is needed due to severe sugar shortage in Holland County.

Local Relative Announces Ralph Weir Arrives Overseas

Relatives here of Ralph Weir learned last week that he has arrived overseas. He serves in the medical corps. He is the son of Mrs Ida Weir and brother of Mesdames W. T. Quinn, E. L. Fickel, C. K. Drum, T. H. McCall, R. L. Russell and Ray Weir of Beaver. He was born here but enlisted in the army from Kansas.

Evanses Return from Chama as Infant Dies after Two Weeks

Mr and Mrs D J Evans returned July 26 from Chama New Mexico where Mrs Evans visited her parents W J Groat and wife A son was born to them but lived only two weeks. The infant died after a brief illness from erysipelas of the bowels Beaver friends extend sympathy.

Poultry Dealer J H Shearer Reports Flourishing Conditions

J H Shearer, a veteran poultry and produce dealer, returned from Kansas City Enid and other eastern points where he went on business. In Enid he visited his father and brothers nearby. He reports splendid wheat in that region and overall flourishing conditions.

Mrs May Barley Barby Dies at Knowles

Mrs May Barley Barby, wife of Otto Barby, longtime Beaver county resident and ranchman, died July 30 after heart trouble and Bright's disease. Born May 6 1875 near Medicine Lodge Kansas she moved to Beaver county in 1896. Survived by husband three sons four daughters and a brother Fred Beebe. Funeral August 1 at Knowles with Rev J L Wellh and local clergy. Interment Knowles Cemetery.
