Draft deferment rules prompt farmers to act

Immediate filing of affidavits is required as the Provost Marshal General orders deferring men actively engaged in farming who are in draft class 1 within the new quota. Local draft boards cannot grant deferrals without farmer-supported proof. Farmers must act now to protect their workers or risk losing hands during a critical period.

District Court Opens Spring Term With Brief Docket

Judge W. C. Crow arrived from Alva and convened the spring term as jurors were summoned for Wednesday. The criminal docket is light with many cases continued by agreement and farmers will not be kept longer than necessary due to the farming season and recent moisture.

Train Service Knocked Out by Last Thursday Flood

The B M E railway has been out since last Thursday night due to renewed flood damage at the Mexican Arroyo crossing. Dirt fill is being replaced and service should resume late this week. The wagon bridge on the same stream collapsed and the highway was badly damaged by the flood.

Refugee Garments Shipped From Beaver Branch

A large shipment of refugee garments collected by the Bide-n-Wee club at Beaver was forwarded to New York for direct shipment to France and Belgium. The goods include warm clothing for men women and children meant to ease destitution and bring comfort to the needy.

A Wednesday morning patriotic rally at the Beaver County Court House drew strong turnout from students, faculty, and out of town attendees for district court.
