A Gladstone Primary School committee met last Friday to seek a further one week closure but the Director of Education declined the extra break. He advised that attendance is optional and exemptions can be requested. The Biennial meeting for tonight is cancelled. Women's Agricultural Bureau opens after harvest at Institute
Georgetown reports the local branch of the Women's Agricultural Bureau held its opening on March 8 with president Mrs G A Smallacombe in the chair. Prizes were awarded for scones and biscuits, 39 members and 4 visitors attended, and afternoon tea followed. A sympathy letter was sent to Mrs M J McAuley after surgery.

Harvest Thanksgiving Services Planned by Baptist Church
The Baptist Church will hold Harvest Thanksgiving Services on Sunday March 70th at 3 pm and 7 pm with Rev. Hunter of Pt. Pirie preaching. Special singing by the Choir. Visitors welcome. Also reports from local sports and weather notes follow, including tennis results and a store sale of ownership to Mr H Swanson.

Savings Bank Scholarships Awarded in South Australia
The Savings Bank of South Australia announced the Boys Scholarship for John R. Thompson of Gladstone Public School and the Girls Exhibition for Patricia Atkinson, formerly Snowtown Public School. Both are awarded after the Education Department's Qualifying Certificate exam to regular depositors with top marks. The boys’ scholarship, created in 1936, is £25 a year for two years at a Government High School and may extend if needed. extra £20 a year if living away from home. The girls’ exhibition is £20 a year for two years. Thompson, son of R. S. Thompson of Gladstone, was aged 124 at exam time and will study at Gladstone High School.
