Beetaloo Reservoir Catchment Cleared By Fire Not Feasible
A note from the Commissioner of Public Works to Mr. R D Nicholls M P states a caretaker oversees the Beetaloo catchment with outside labor for extra work. Silt at upper reaches is visible but does not affect the intake. large timber dominates the area and burning would risk the nearby Wireabura Forest, so clearing by fire is deemed too dangerous. The water shortage is blamed on scant rainfall, not catchment condition, so no effective clearing gains are expected.
