Israel B. Wolfe of a farm near Alma died suddenly while returning home from a visit, after a period of poor health. Born January 1, 183? in Jefferson County Pennsylvania, he moved to Portage County Ohio then to Gratiot County in 1855, becoming a pioneer figure and the first man to cross Mine River without a threshing machine. A member of Alma Lodge No. 24 F and A M, he was widely respected. funeral at his residence was led by Rev. Charles Ryan with large attendance from Michigan communities.
