Rochester area farmers face a deceptive campaign by traveling sellers of kitchen ranges. A financier style scam uses forged notes and back contracts to trap buyers into paying inflated prices before the buyer learns of the deceit. Legal action is being pursued by local attorney Currey as warrants issued against W Moody of the Economic Furnace Co. and cases settle in several locales. Gratiot farmers warned to beware of these tactics.
Saturday night patrons will see a new amusement titled It Plankard a four act Yankee comedy with J C Lewis in the title role. The play depicts New England farm life and vivid city life contrasts with a threshing machine scene and comic specialties. A superb orchestra offers musical entertainment as reserved seats are on sale at Webb's.

The Alma College prospectus reports rising prosperity. New faculty hires include Mrs. Hickok as lady principal and instructors Miss Jessie Wagner in piano, Mr. Fullerton in mathematics, with Mr. Beckner and Mr. Horst assisting in vocal and violin. Buildings improve with steam heat, new slate boards, and a refined Ladies Hall interior. Endowment efforts reach 50 000 toward 200 000 within two years, plus 15 000 for a chair of the Lady Principal and funds for a new museum building, with church support pledged.
Dr Nelson F McClinton will establish practice in Alma after leaving Cass City where he partnered with his father. A Cass City Enterprise clipping notes his four year medical course at University of Michigan and confirms his move to Alma. Si Ploukard’s famous farmers will perform at the opera house with a muddy noon parade led by Si and his band, promising a novel street pageant.

A pretty home wedding occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs Geo E Wilson on Wednesday Sept 7. Bart Nelson of Thayer Kansas and Miss Frances EB Barn of Grand Rapids Mich were married with Rev M D Carter officiating. Guest numbers were around thirty with a reception at the Sopers following. The couple will reside in Alma, with Nelson employed at the Alma Roller Mills.
The note asks every county school to attend the fair on October 4 5 6 and 7 with scholars marching in line. Free admission for scholars teachers drivers and teams. Tuttle to handle tickets and instructions. County secretary Cowry urges broad turnout for a grand event.
